Free throws are something that a player should do on his own. At the college level the coaches really shouldn't be altering the shot process of any player, unless there's an obvious problem like if the player is a center and almost never takes jump shots. Players at the Big East level should be tweaking their own form and stroke. I honestly don't think there should be ANY team in Division I that takes time out of formal practice to shoot free throws.

I absolutely disagree...many players get to the college level on athleticism and god given talent alone.  Just becuase a kid is incredibly athletic does not mean he ever played for good coaches or coaches that were good at teaching technique or even knew good technique for that matter.  Technique is drilled and taught daily...have you ever been to a D1 practice?  You are never too good or two old to work on technique and skills.  Heck Buzz has said it numerous times they run zig zags every single practice.  Any third grade basketball team worth adime does too.  Lots of two ball dribbling, dribbling, passing, shooting etc.  All the while working on speed, precision, technique, etc.  I am refering to D1 practices...just becuase you get bigger, better and older doesnt change the game or what you work on.

Provided you have a decent stroke (either hoops or golf) it's about practice and situation simulation, not about "coaching".

The problem was that DJ had a terribly inconsistent stroke. That should have been addressed by coaching.
