He's claiming an unofficial scholarship offer from MU.

"In a development that stunned Connaughton himself, last season's Salem News Player of the Year received scholarships offers from the following schools: Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Florida, Penn State and Northwestern. Crotty added that Marquette, Iowa State and Colorado are also in the mix "100 percent." Technically, these were all unofficial offers at the time, but as of Monday, schools could follow up with phone calls that made it official."

I took it to mean the first schools mentioned offered "unofficial" scholarships, and MU, ISU, and CU were very interested, but hadn't offered.

What is an unofficial scholly anyways?  A coach saying "We would really like if you played ball here"?

Seems pretty self explanatory to me.  Just like an unofficial job offer, "We'd really like to hire you but it'll take us a few days to get our ducks in a row and get the paperwork out to you."

I could be way off base though! :)

He averaged 30 points and 21 rebounds?

Kid is a big time baseball player. I think that will be a factor in his decision.

It said Monday schools could call by phone and make it official. I assume offer was made through player's coach during player non-contact period.

Good thing that's not on the sign at Medicine Hat. Place would be rather empty, eh?

Enough with the race references, I want quality players no matter where there from or what color they are.

Except those greenies. I hear they're not very nice.

The article says he wants to play baseball - don't see him likely picking MU.

Crawford, Shaw and Polonowski were baseball players. I believe at least one of them ( probably Crawford)had a minor league contract, which included the minor league team paying the players tuition. I not sure if the same rules are in effect, but you could be considered a pro in one sport and participate in another. Anybody know the current rule? I am pretty sure Crawford was a pitcher. I think Shaw was too, but may not have played in minor leagues.

Yup.

Crawford was a pitcher in the Astros organization.
