I'm intrigued by this show, The Wire, you mention.  I've never subscribed to premium channels, and live under a rock when it comes to TV shows, so this is the first I've heard of it.

A quick googlee says it's an HBO series, but no longer in production.  If I don't want to spring for the DVDs, can it be streamed on the web somewhere or is it an iTunes the only option in cyberspace?

holy crap, you do live under a rock!

And if you buy the complete series box on Amazon, you pay only $10 more than buying the digital episodes on iTunes.

I can't put how much i love this show in words but I'll try.  It's like the soprano's only if there were 10s of millions Italian gangsters that lived that way in the states.
It  gives you the most realistic view of innercity drug abusers, other members of the drug culture, police investigations, gang structure, police politics, police personal and professional failings, election politics, failing unions, city hall politics, city schools, and the life cycles of the people trapped in some of these neighborhoods ever on a TV drama.
The writer spent a year following around a police homicide unit and wrote the book: Homicide.  Which was later turned into the TV show Homicide and is a great read. I'm not going to tell you to buy the DVD's but netflix is 8$ a month and you can have a dvd at your house when you get home every few days and currently will give you a month free trial.  Do it.

And you still managed to leave out "the media's inability to properly cover any of that."

I definitely meant to include newspaper politics in there.  I loved those parts.

Join Netflix for a month or two and blast thru it.  You won't be disappointed.  5 seasons, 12 1-hour long eps per season, with a little commitment you can get through it relatively quickly.  I think my record on a snowy Saturday was 8 episodes during season 4.

When Stringer Bell tells Brother Mouzone and Omar Little, "Get on with it, muthaf***ers." was one of the best scenes in TV history.

Also...was there a more sympathetic character than Dukie?
