I've been one of those harping on the officiating tonight.  I've now had the opportunity to watch our game again on DVR, and it occurred to me that we simply ran into a ridiculously hot team and didn't play our best down the stretch.  Officiating was slightly tipped in UW's favor all in all (not nearly as bad as I thought it was in the heat of the moment), but mostly because they dictated tempo and played really outstanding defense during the comeback and in the closing minutes - from about 7 minutes to go and onward.

Couple that with the fact that a pretty mediocre 3 point shooting team had their hottest shooting night of the season, and it spelled doom for this Marquette team.

I wish I didn't feel so sick at the thought of Lazar, Mo and Cubi playing their last games in Marquette uniforms, though...  :(

Did UW make more 3-pointers tonight than any other game this year for them?

NO DON't WATCH IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the Cracked Sidewalks article - this pretty much sums it up (it doesn't mention the Holiday kid..but he was known to be a terrible 3 point shooter/offensive player in general..as the scouting report from their own fans told us on Scoop - new it was a bad omen when he went 2 for 2 from 3 in the first 7 minutes of the game)

Marquette lost this game because the 236th best three-point shooting team in the country, Washington, which had hit only 32.5% of their treys all year, had 11 of 16 go in tonight for 68.8%.  If you don't believe that just was simply a night of everything falling for Washington, consider that they also hit a 90 foot three pointer, all net, at the end of the first half, but thankfully it was waved off due to a Marquette shot clock violation.

If they had hit their season average 32.5% that would have been 5 of 16, and Marquette would be rolling into the game against New Mexico with an easy 78-62 win.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

I'm a glutton for punishment that way.  Probably watched the Packers playoff loss to the Cardinals 5 or 6 times.

What was wrong with the officials? I didn't notice a real problem with how the game was called. Marquette lost because they played like aholes from the moment they got a 15 point lead on. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

It's a recurring theme over the last 5 years.

Good game Marquette, a shame one team had to lose.
I agree we had a very hot shooting night, HOWEVER, you must admit, your guys never challenged our 3 point shooters, time and time again our guys were left wide open to set their feet and launch the 3, left unchallenged most D-1 ball players are going to make some 3's.
At any rate I really like your team, they shoot lights out, but somebody has to win and somebody has to lose good luck in the future, it has been a pleasure blogging with your fans.

So upon further review Jimmy did foul Poindexter when he partially blocked his shot that gave UW the chance to tie instead of us having the ball and a lead.

The timing of bad calls at key points in the game are what hurts teams the most. And that call, the travel on Butler and the 4th foul on Acker were all bad and all came at the most critical point in the game when we were fighting for out life after blowing a 15 point lead.

Couple that with the fact that a pretty mediocre 3 point shooting team had their hottest shooting night of the season, and it spelled doom for this Marquette team.

Yup, they were on fire.  Reminded me of the Alabama game where they just couldn't miss.  Ugh.  Then again, we shot lights out, too, at least in the first half.  I don't have the energy to look at the box score.  Hitting the rack.  Will post videos and pictures tomorrow of the pep rally.
