I'd argue last year we got a seed higher than what many experts thought considering the DJ injury and the losses at the end of the year.

Seems like we usually get 1 to 2 seeds lower than what we might expect.

I'm hoping my previous post was the shortest post ever on this Board.  Marquette is typically seeded 2-4 spots below expectation.  They could legitimately be a 7 seed this year, but will probably be a 9, 10, or 11.  I'm going with a 10.

Yeah, I thought the 6 last year was generous. Going into Selection Sunday I thought MU was going to be a 7, with a good chance at receiving an 8. Last year was a pleasant surprise.

Agreed.  Considering the play after the DJ injury I felt a 6 was a gift.

Could it be that you overvalue MU's resume and therefore your expectations are way to high?  That is more than likely the case.

Last year, MU had a 6 seed.  You think they should have been a 2,3 or a 4 seed?  No way.  Last year we definitely got a nice placement by the committee.

To think that a committee that changes every year is out to get MU is ridiculous.  If we feel slighted, it is usually more due to the fact that we as fans think we are better than we actually are.

For the record, I see us as an 8 or 9 seed.

Once you get beyond the top 4 seeds it becomes highly subjective.  Last year's team was not a 4 seed, but 5 would not have been wrong.  Think of it this way, a 5 seed is considered the 17th -20th best team in the country, a 6 seed is 21st - 24th, and 7 seed is 25th - 28th.

This year, one could easily argue that Marquette is the 28th best team in the country and 7 seed.  I would probably place them as 29th - 32nd, and an 8 seed, but it is highly subjective.  All that being said, I believe the committee defers to RPI and will make Marquette a 10 seed.

This same thread probably appears on every team's fan message board. Fans always have a higher opinion of their own team. Blah, blah, blah. If you don't win your regular season conference championship you don't have a right to complain. I still believe only the season champions deserve to be in the tournament. It's getting to be like little league where everyone gets to play and everyone gets a trophy. Got to love modern America where everyone feels entitled to everything.

I just have a feelign this year MU will be rewarded with a higher than expected seed. This is team only lost one game by double digits all year and how can you not appreciate their effort despite their obvious shortcomings being so small. That's really impressive.

I'm with you on this thought...I do think close losses are factored in..and last year's team had a lot of close losses down the stretch -and some here have said they were surprised with last year's seed.  I'm going to say a 7.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

7 x 4 =28. I do not think we are in the top 28 teams in the country. Yes, we can beat top 28 teams, but we have to be hot from three to do so. Yes, fans generally think their team is better than it is and we are overrating this team. Winning three road games in a row in overtime was an amazing feat, but I think last years team before James' injury wins those games by at an average of 10 points. I love the toughness of this team, but they are over achievers.

every year we get a lower seed.

Um, last year?

BTW, I'd be fine with anything but the 8-9 game opposite KU in the second round in Oklahoma City.
