Man, I been drivng half way across the country to my next duty station...what'd I miss?? Was Jones being a douche throughout the game, and so Cubillan and Butler were rubbing it in his face?

But, there are also instances where, if you have a clear shot at the basket, go for the points and you can likely get the contact as well, thus accomplishing both objectives.  I'll take the two + one, vs the two free throws anytime.

When you're 6' 7" playing inside in the BEAST you don't have the option to go up for a "clear" shot at the basket and likely get contact as well.  That's going to result in a ton of blocked shots.  Get your body into the guy to draw the contact and create the space you need to get up a shot.  Hope the shot falls or the foul is called, and if both happen, even better.  You're not going to get many and-one opportunities by avoiding contact, or not worrying about the defender, in the BEAST.  A simple look at how many shots Butler has had blocked and his FG% will tell you that what he's doing under the hoop in the BEAST, for someone his size, is amazing.

avid1010 - not trying to beat a dead horse.  i see where you're coming from and I DO agree, but even at 6'7", if you have the angle or a step on the defender, go straight up or straight in, and dunk.  I thought I saw a couple instances in this game, and in previous games, where Jimmy had the opportunity to do that but didn't.  No real disagreement with what you're saying, except that generalizing that "in the BEast" he should draw contact.  Love the discussion though.  Thanks! (That's not in teal - i mean it).  Debate is healthy.   ;D

I agree that at times you need to draw the contact especially if you're working on a guy in foul trouble or a guy you need to get into foul trouble.  But, there are also instances where, if you have a clear shot at the basket, go for the points and you can likely get the contact as well, thus accomplishing both objectives.  I'll take the two + one, vs the two free throws anytime.  But I understand each play presents different options.  It just seems to me the mindset should be "field goal" instead of "free throws."  I'm not an expert, so help me out here.  Am I way off base here or what?

Does Jimmy normally try to just get fouled or does he try to finish?  The answer is clear to me.  This is extraordinarily picky.

I didn't get that impression - there didn't appear to be a whole lot of back-and-forth between teams during the game, so unless it was pointed at Jones's win-streak guarantee I'm not sure what the cause was.  Since Jimmy's dance was atypical for him I actually thought he might be poking fun at Cubes, though under the basket was likely not the best place for it no matter what.

I was going to post something about this.  He needs to DUNK!

Can't dunk all the time there, but there was at least one of the 3 last nite where he could have stuffed it instead of pump faking and drawing a foul.  I'd like to see more of that....

Good try at a philosophical statement, and I understand what you are trying to say, but your syntax is a bit off.  You and I are both new to posting, but having a bit more experience, I can tell you that you don't want to come into threads and challenge everyone at once telling them they don't have the authority to criticize.  I said something stupid like that when I first began posting and it didn't turn out well for me.  Remember the reason people are on here is to be critical and discuss topics.  None of us are "experts".  You are more than welcome to say whatever you want, of course, I am just trying to help you avoid backlash...

I have already felt the sting of enraged posters.I just find it difficult to accept the criticism some have of young athletes giving their all.

You're right.  It's easy to say what we say on a message board when we aren't the ones playing...

So then how come in a separate thread you state that 20 year olds should be able to go all out on both ends of the court (the debate was regarding DJO's performance)?  To quote you, "I am amazed at the authority with which so many who lack the talent can criticize those who do."

From what I have heard from him in the past, I think Butler would probably agree that he could have dunked it or laid it in a couple times instead of trying to draw contact.  Why is that such a harsh criticism?  No one is questioning his effort.

I don't think anyone needs to be on the team or have the ability to dunk to offer an opinion.  Nor do I feel like I need to be President to have a view on a political issue.

I thought the jimmy shimmy was sweet.  Showboating? Give him a pass? He doesn't need a pass, I like to see that kind of attitude out of a hot team.  Wade and the big three used to bang their chests and do all kinds of things like that, why any backlash against Jimmy?  He's an upperclassman who is a leader on a surging team. Shimmy away.

Wasn't it Cordell Henry that did the "knife and slash" (not sure what else to call it) across his chest a few times?

Jimmy's shimmy was at the 4 minute 10 second mark in the second half.  If you go to it on ESPN360, start around the 4:15 mark.
