I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

We just launched a new HD satellite in December.

http://www.youtube.com/v/RFcsl7xQ0E4

It's going through all it's testing right now at 22,300 feet.  ESPNU HD (ESPNU SD we've had since day 1) will be part of that bird's activation along with about another 50 to 60 HD channels....we should be close to 200 by end of the year.

I don't have a timeline yet, but if I were to guess I'd say April or May.  Depends on how the testing goes.

Thanks for your answer Chico! I e-mailed Directv about this on Wednesday, but never got a reply. Now I know.

Have had DirecTV for about 2 years, don't think I will ever switch.  Mainly since I live in Boston, but follow all WI sports teams.  No one can touch DirecTV with sports.

And the customer service is top notch.

And of course, DirecTV will jack up their price for all of the new HD channels.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Yes, just like every other television provider.  The #1 reason costs go up in television (and not for, say, cell phone service) is because the content providers (HBO, ESPN, FOX, CNN, etc, etc, etc) raise the prices on the distributors (TWC, FIOS, DIRECTV, DISH) significantly each year.  Some of those content providers raise them 20 to 30% each year.

Will there ever been an option to ONLY get HD channels?  I could care less about the SD channels - I only watch HD, yet 75% of the channels that I have are SD.

Well eventually everything will be HD only, but that's years away.  DISH Network has a HD only package, but read the fine print...that may be an option for you.

The fact of the matter is that most of the nation does not have HD televisions so SD will be around for a LOOOOONNNNGGG time to come.  A decade or longer would be my guess.
