In period of coaching transitions, Wardle was a true warrior. His game was remiscient of Chris Mullin in that he was not the most athletic out there but he got his points somehow, someway...and when he was on, he could stroke it.

imho, Wardle is one of the most underrated or forgotten MU stars... granted it's hard to remember much for the years before DW era.  I still remember Bob the Barber telling me, "Wardle is raving about this Dwyane Wade kid who's sitting out this year... he wishes he could stay another year to play with him.  The kid's that good."  Wardle's obviously had a keen eye for talent at the early stages... should help in recruiting.

For my money, however, the most underappreciated Marquette player is Tony Smith. I believe he's the best Marquette player to not have his number in the rafters.

Tony Smith is a good choice for most underrated.  Bernard Toone??  He certainly wasn't overrated but he clearly never lived up to what he could have been.  And we needed him while he sleep-walked through a number of games.

I think Al once said he was the most talented recruit he ever went after.  In  no way did he deliver on that promise though, IMO.
