I'm sure it's on here, but I can't find it.  Who knows how tournament revenues are split up?  How much will the Big East take in based upon the 17-5 record (so far)?

A lot

Thanks.  I was hoping for something a little more specific, but since I'm too lazy to find out myself, I'll take what I can get.

A quick google search found this, might be worth a quick review.  Seems the book was published in 2004 and references numbers and policies from the 90s a fair amount, so might not be totally up-to-date.

Also this article, published in 2004 as well, gives some more numbers:
QuoteIndeed, this year, $105.3 million of the tournament lucre will be distributed based on how many sports schools offer and how many athletes they have on scholarship. Another $105.3 million will be awarded based on how well schools perform on the court. A conference accrues one "unit" for each game in which one of its teams appears until the championship game (no units are awarded for the finale). This year, each unit is worth around $152,000. Payments are made each year for six years, so those amassed this month will be worth around $912,000 apiece overall.

So, the Big East has racked up in the neighborhood of $3.6M ($152K x the 22 games played already and the 2 on Saturday), which means a little over $225K for each school.  And that's presuming that the money that the unit money comes out of hasn't gone way up in 5 years.

Hmm .. isn't it somehow based on YOUR TEAM's performance, too?  I mean, USF and DePaul shouldn't be getting the same share that UConn does.

The first link stated that the Big East created a policy in 1991 that each school gets $120k per game that it plays in the NCAA tournament, and then splits the remaining money between conference members.  Not sure how that's changed in almost two decades.

Some conferences split based on performance, others do an equal distribution.  I'd rather have it be an equal distribution (though normally I'm a capitalistic pig).  It helps level the playing field in some respects, at least in this one area.  Since there is no spending cap for college athletics, some departments will outspend others by a ton.
