Just posted on JS Online.

For those that don't know, in Wisconsin the Mr. Basketball award goes to the best senior in the state, the AP Player of the Year can go to anyone regardless of class.  Last year Maymon won the AP award but since he was a junior he wasn't eligible for Mr. Basketball and that went to DeMarcus Phillips.

You have to like this quote:

QuoteMaymon surely could have scored more this season. But after last season, he knew the path to a title involved shooting less, passing more and paying plenty of attention to his role as a leader. His message to younger teammates?

"You can still be goofy and be yourself," Maymon said. "But you've got to be able to turn it on and off."

Marquette is losing three marquee players from its team, which lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday. Jerel McNeal, Dominic James and former Memorial star Wesley Matthews are seniors, meaning Maymon could have a chance to contribute early in college.

"They always battle back, that's what I like about them," Maymon said. "It was a tough loss. It shouldn't have gone that way. But next year will be a different story."

P.S. Check out the look on Jamil Wilson's face when as Maymon scores around him...priceless.

You can see Wilson's vagina all the way from here.....

what you don't see is that Wilson was smart enough not to foul since he played most of the second half with 4 fouls.

I see you've been using the "Jump to Conclusions" mat.

Any high school player who finds himself with four fouls early in the second half probably is undeserving of the label "smart enough not to foul."

Did you use the "Jump to Conclusions" mat to determine that this photo was taken in the second half after Wilson had four fouls?  ;)

It could have been taken in the first half when Wilson had 4 fouls. He got hosed on a few calls, but such is life.

So just because the kid isn't going to MU, you're going to say stuff like this about him?? The kid may be the best pure talent to come out of Wisconsin in a long time...he took a very very poorly coached team with little talent around him (other than Oliver) to the state title game. I don't think thats anything to be ashamed of

Give Jamil a break.  It has been a tough few years with his mom passing away after a long fight with cancer.  He deserves nothing but our best wishes.  He'll be a heck of a ballplayer in college and I wish it had worked out that he could have been at Marquette.

+1

I've been hard in some circles on the kid, but I hope he finds what he's looking for at Oregon.  Sometimes when stuff like that happens in life, there's something to be gained in getting as far away from where the pain happened as possible.  I don't think he's the top 10 player a lot of people once thought he was, but he's going to have a very, very good career at Oregon.
