I've been an MU fan for more than 40 years and this team is one of my all time favorites. Today was an perfect example of why I love this team so much. No center, no true power forward, no bench and without their star point guard (DJ played 13 minutes but was a shadow of himself) these guys played 11 deep, top 10, Big 12 tourney champ, 40 minutes of hell Missouri to a standstill. In the last minute and a half, we were a little unlucky and a little careless, but the heart and character of these guys was amazing.

I thought I couldn't be more proud. Then I listened to their press conference. One after another, DJ, Jerel and Wes patiently, politely and articulately answered the mostly inane questions common to post game "pressers". This as their hearts were obviousy broken. What a team, what a great group of young men and what wonderful representatives of Marquette University.

So adios to the 4 amigos (Burke was great today). I'll leave it to others to debate where your wonderful accomplishments rank in terms of MU basketball history. To me and to Marquette fans everywhere you were much more than bball players. Thanks for the memories.

Well said.  These are good kids, better people, and very fine basketball players.  It's been fun watching them for four years be model citizens and great representatives of Marquette University.  And I agree, Burke busted his rump for 4 years along with everyone else.

you may be the dumbest person dead or alive.

You know mubball - I've had enough of your crap.  Name calling, and constant insults of other members.  We can live without you.

I'm going to save everyone else the process of ignoring you.  From now on, you can spew your garbage on some other message board.  Buh-bye.

Burke played a role on this team.  Defend the post, get rebounds.  He was not the most talented guy to ever play this role, but he played it pretty well.

77 Champs had a guy who played that role, Bill Neary.  Not a pretty player, but tough as nails.  Every team needs a guy willing to do this.

you're pathetic. these are some of the luckiest kids in the world and you are applauding one of them for not leaving. really? nice job burke, you didn't spit in the face of a 200k gift!

as for lazar, if u would have said he had a good game only because he had 10 rebounds, I would have easily pointed out those misses too. those 3 rebounds were 30 percent of burkes stats and merely a blip of haywards game contribution.

and I'm not calling for his scholarship, all I said was him having a great game was high comedy. I didn't know that was too harsh a crime. u were the one that got their panties bundled up. if someone gives me money to do a job and I don't do it, I sure hell hope they criticize me.

and again, I just want to thank dwight burke, one more time, not not quitting. this school rejects 1 in 6 applicants, is ranked in the top 90, and costs over 200k for expenses, tuition and board. so one more time, lets give it up for dwight burke and the sacrifices he made to contribute what he did.

you may be the dumbest person dead or alive.

Now there is one angry young man/woman!  Wrath and envy, 2 of the 7 deadly sins.  It is amazing how the anonymity of a message board brings out the worst in people.

Thank you.  I was hoping one of you guys would finally do that.

Back in the day, sloth was my personal favorite with lust a close second. Wrath, pride and gluttony were not too far behind. Ah, youth.

Sloth, no doubt.  I remember walking on the living room floor and breaking a plate that was under about a foot of newspapers left either by you or Graber.  As to lust, too many dreams unfulfilled.

A foot of newspapers? Two to four inches max, probably old Oshkosh Daily Northwesterns with a sprinkling of Chicago Tribunes and Milwaukee Journals and Sentinels. They were strategically placed so that guys like you didn't drag mud and such all over our expensive carpeting. If a plate was occasionally sacrificed, so be it.

I agree. Burke was solid today. Isn't anytime he puts the ball in the hole a bonus for us...or hits free throws? Glad he had a solid game closing out his MU career.

Cheers Dwight.
It's not about ME,

WHOO! CENSORSHIP! Why allow people to hold different opinions when we have Rocky to silence anyone who holds an unpopular opinion and stirs up trouble?

Please, censor me next King Rocky!

I think censorship at the expense of personal attacks on a privately own and run website follow a different set of rules.

Rocky was right on.

You're a racist.

MUbball can rip Burke all he wants, same as people did with Ooze last year. This team would not have had the success it did without Burke. The roster as it was, he played a big role on this team. Would it have been nice to have a 6'10" hoss on the team-yes. But we didn't have it and I truly believe Burke gave all he had to give. How can you rip a guy for that??? He was asked to come hoop at MU, and did what he could in return. If he wasn't good enough that he shouldn't have been at MU that's on MU, not Burke.

HAHAHA, what?!

I know I'm not the only one who's noticed a strong undercurrent of racial prejudice in this dude's posts. Let's not beat around the bush here.

Hah. Clever.  Find me one, and I'll give you a cookie.  Find me two, and I'll run down Wisconsin Avenue tomorrow morning during rush hour wearing nothing but a sombrero. Usually, I'd be against threads getting run off course, but this dude will be gone from MU Scoop in a matter of moments, so I figure it will get cleaned up.

Go Warriors.

mu_hilltopper

Yeah, it's not Rocky that's gonna pull that trigger.

There already was an expired ban on IKOB.  I guess we only have a two strikes policy here.

Moonboots

Thanks, 'Topper.

Now let's get this thread back to where it should be, honoring these four seniors for four great years in this program.

As a sophomore, I consider myself pretty lucky to have walked in on the second half of perhaps the best graduating class in the history of the school, and certainly the best basketball time in school history outside of '03 and the Al era.  Now, for the first time, there will be a measure of uncertainty when I next venture to the student section of a Marquette basketball game, but I'm just as excited as everyone else.

And I'll carry the memories that these four helped bring throughout the rest of my undergrad years and most definitely as an alum.

Will be pretty cool to tell the kids someday, "Oh, McNeal, James, and Matthews?  I saw those guys play.  They were pretty damn good."
