After yesterday I needed to turn an eye on the future so I looked up to see if there was any news on Aaron Bowen and found a few items I had not see before (and the Wiki has been updated).  Anyone have any other info (stats, etc)?

On February 17, 2009, Rick Staudt, Florida Editor of the HOOP SCOOP, named Aaron Bowen sixth team all-state as a JR, as well as #12 on the list of TOP JUNIORS (CLASS OF 2010) in FL.

Sixth team all state and the 12th ranked junior in Florida.  Did we get involved too early with him?  Only 3 slots for 2010 and two of them are taken.

Unless Buzz saves Hazel's spot for 2010.  Thats when Hazel announces he is leaving.

That profile is self-created, and it is terrible. He's majoring in business, but cannot spell it.

Wasn't Bowen coming off a knee injury this past summer too?  That might have had something to do with it.

Looking at that list, though, the state of Florida is LOADED.  I think it's a little different getting the 12th ranked junior out of one of the 5 largest states in the country than say getting the 12th ranked junior out of Wisconsin.

I think you are severely underestimating the talent pool in Florda.  Guys that rank in the 10-20 range are guys that get scholarships to Kentucky, Mizzou, South Florida, Florida, Auburn, Miami, Ole Miss etc.  They are guys that often times come in and start right away for high major teams and certainly produce big time in the Big East(see Dominique Jones of USF).

Yep.
Just for comparison's sake, HoopScoop's #12 Florida player in 2005 was David Huertas, who averaged 18 ppg this year at Mississippi.
In 2006, it was Damian Hollis, who led George Washington in scoring this year.
In 2007, it was Chandler Parsons, who started for Florida this year and averaged 9.4 ppg.

I think Buzz and his staff were trying to get a player on the rise - similar to Roseboro.  We don't get the same recruits as the elite programs so we have to look at upside.

Pakuni, thanks for putting it into perspective.

I also think mu77vegas is right: Buzz is trying to grab players on the rise and help fit different needs (Bowen is long, attacks the basket, shoots the 3, etc.).

Not to mention, FL is highly competitive at local, regional, state, and AAU levels so he sees great talent when he plays against them. That's huge for a future BE player.

Hopefully he's better than our last Florida recruit. :D

Favorite college team is "UNC"?   ?-(
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

Last edit on that page was before he committed to MU.
