Hayward - We didn't look too good on D against Providence for the first 35 minutes.

In my experience, this is a common approach in the south, especially when dealing with people from the north: play the dumb southern stereotype up... while the whole time, you're outsmarting everyone. ;)

dat buh-uhz, he one smart cracka!!

So far this year Buzz has proven to be Crean's offensive superior but defensive inferior.    Our ranking on D is down some 30 spots but our offensive ranking has gone up about 20 spots.

I attribute 100% of the decline on defense to not slapping the floor anymore.

you are right we did have a slip up against Providence but apart from that we have been oustanding our last 9 or so games.  But also bear in mind Providence has 8 seniors, has  aton and I mean a ton of talent, and was at home and are 5-2 in the BE.  Not saying we did not have a slip up defensively, we did but they are good.  and my point remains we are significant better on D than we were in Novemeber and I beleive those Novemeber games have to have a negative effect on any measurment numbers.

I am not going to get into the whole Genius thing,  I do find it funny that sometimes people think they are legends or maybe geniuses in their own minds...sometimes eliciting their peers to mock them with nicknames like "Tommy Naismith".

As far as Buzz being inferior on the defensive side,  i would question that.  It is clear to everyone who has watched all the games that we were not very good to start the season but after the first 5-6-7 games our defense has been outstanding.  In fact I think this team over the last 8-9 games has played the best defense i have seen out of an MU team in years, dating probably back into the 1990's.  The defensive stretch that we had in the Cincy game was probably the best stretch of defense I have seen in 15 years.

Nevertheless, that 30 points or spots reference was probably largely effected by those first 5-6 games where we rountinely gave up 80. We were also adjusting to a new defensive scheme.  Big time injury problems and the loss of the only player over 6'8" in the program for the last 2 years in OOze who was a 3 year starter and helped solidify the middle.

And the defense in the first half of the Providence game was about the worst defense I have seen since I became a warrior in 99.  I agree that we are not that bad on defense, but that half (and the first 8 minutes of the second half) was TERRIBLE.  How many dunks and put backs did Providence get?

And to speak to another comment about Buzz doing great adjustments, I am still waiting til next year or the year after that to figure it out.  When Providence goes 7/8 (I think) to start the second half, I don't think that is a great adjustment.  Guys, we have great mature players.  You can't draw up a game plan to get to have Hayward to get red hot at the end of the game.  From my perspective, the Providence game was one where our boys turned up the pressure and Providence guys couldn't handle it.  IMO, all bets are off about Buzz for about two years.

The word he used was "retarded".

I don't believe you. As for the quote, this is just Buzz being Buzz.

One thing he does do far better than Crean, at least initially, is come out of the timeout nicely. How many times under Crean did we come out of a timeout with a broken play and an ill-advised shot?

He actually does use that descriptor quite a bit.
