I have a new found respect for the Evans Scholars. One of the girls, main picture of the article, is heading to Marquette. I had no idea it was as competitive and scrutinizing as it is.

i would have preferred to win the Bushwood Caddy scholarship myself.

I know it is a serious article, but given the scholars I knew during my time at MU I can't help but smirk....

A touching article. Man, those kids had some tough lives. I hope they make it through.

Congrats to Rkein.

Also, great pub for the WGA and Marquette.

+1,  although I guess the "Scholars" that started at MU after 2003 or so earned the free ride more than their predecessors

I was an Evans Scholar at MU.  It's a great scholarship and I worked my ass off to get it.   As great as I think it still is, things have changed in the last decade about who gets it

For better or for worse?

From as far as I can tell, it's not so much about financial need anymore so much as it is about grades.   I was an above average student in HS, but far from great.   I think that if I had applied for the scholarship now I'd probably be rejected.

Also, for anyone that has ever caddied you know that males make up the vast majority of the caddie population.   The MU house has roughly 60 scholars and I think that more than half of them now are women.

I can't say it's better or worse now, but it's definitely different.
