The ESPN announcers drove me insane tonight. They seemed totally bored/uninterested in the spectacle going on in front of them.

Is it too much to ask for a little emotion/enthusiasm for the game you are calling? Dickie V goes overboard with emotion, but at least he pays attention. These guys seemed much more interested in spewing factoid after factoid about the players and coaches than in talking about the actual game. I spent more time yelling at them to tell what the call was or who fouled than I did at the players or the refs.

Also, I absolutely hate this. It's a five point game with 4 minutes left and they're talking like its over. Then Hayward hits a 3 and they seem surprised MU is within 2 points.

These guys were terrible. Guess I have to learn to turn off the sound and listen to Homer & Mack.

Wareagle

The producers also missed at least 5 free throws.

RubyWiscy

Ya, that too. The producing was terrible as well.

Markusquette

They seemed to like showing Bruce Pearl screaming at his guys more than MU at the FT line

Spewing over factoids, nah.  The announcers needed to mention 89 times how important "touches in the paint" were.

mu_hilltopper

At half time, I switched to Homer and Mac.   They add so much to the telecast, it's not even funny.

Did anyone else take a drink every time "paint touches" was said?

lab_warrior

Yeah, I swear at like the 5 min. mark, Nessler literally said something like "Tennesee is gonna rebound nicely after that loss to Temple."...just totally mailing it in.
And apparently, with the new regime, "paint touches" is the new "deflections".

Ok now I understand why they kept showing the paint touches graphic on the jumbotron.  We were all wondering what the hell was going on.

I particularly enjoyed "When we come back, we'll assess Wesley Matthews' potential to play in the NBA".  They had been doing that all game long already...

Last night's announcers were not particularly good, but I'd rather have announcers lack emotion than show it. It personally nausiates me when, listening to almost any game of any sport, announcers rah-rah whichever team is on a run, often going back and forth in the typical eb and flow of a game.

Hate to quote Bill Clinton (who was quoting a movie I think ...) but I'd rather have a "just the facts, ma'am" reporting of the game.

I mean, if someone has a dunk or a ridiculous 3 get excited about it but don't act like every 7 point run of either team suddenly reveals the ageless wisdom of the coaching staff or the huge NBA potential of the guy who has had 3 of the last 4 field goals on his team.

Reminded me of the game against Pitt at Madison Sq. Garden, was it last year's Big East tourney? The color man (I can see his face, can't remember his name - some hack) spouting about the Pitt players being NY natives and showing that "New York City pride." Who knows how many times he repeated that nonsense.

Face it, you can't expect anything from these national hacks. They don't do a lot of prep, rely on notes prepared by others. Lucky if they can remember the players' names. They try and sound intelligent but some times (most of the time) fall well short.

Len Elmore is who you are thinking of.  And yes, he is a douche.

ZiggysFryBoy

DJ also moved to Richmond, VA last night too.

mugoose

fry boy - i was thinking the same thing. how do you miss that? so baaaad

awful telecast.

I watched it at work without the sound and then watched it on TIVO this morning. Nessler and that other clown sucked. We're up two in the second half and they're spending all their time saying what we're doing wrong. And that "paint touches" crapola was beyond annoying. Simply awful job by ESPN.
