Two Marquette Students to win a new Smart Car

Marquette Athletics announced Saturday that two students will win a blue or gold Marquette-themed Smart Car as part of the 2008-09 Fanatics Rewards Program. The Smart Cars are courtesy of Bergstrom Automotive and have a retail value of about $17,000 each.

Saturday's announcement highlighted the annual New Student Pep Rally, an event designed to introduce incoming Marquette students to the university's athletic traditions. New students were taught the Marquette Alma Mater and "Ring Out Ahoya" and learned about upcoming events and how they can win prizes through the rewards program.

Marquette coaches Pati Rolf, Markus Roeders and Stan Anderson then addressed the new students, stressing their importance in creating a home field advantage. Men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball student-athletes also mingled through the crowd, distributing free backpacks and signing autographs.

The Fanatics Rewards Program is an incentive program that rewards Marquette students for their attendance at soccer, volleyball and basketball home games. Students can accumulate entries into the end-of-the-year drawing by attending events throughout the year.

One of the two Smart Cars will be awarded at the final men's basketball game of the season and the other will be won by a lucky Fanatic attending the last women's basketball game of the year.

More information on the Fanatics Rewards Program can be found at GoMarquette.com/fanatics.

I noticed Bergstrom had replaced his Hummer dealership off of 45N with a Smart Car dealership... guess it's a sign of the times.  I wonder if Buzz and company will switch over to driving around in smart cars.

Maybe Buzz will come motoring out in a smart car at Marq Madness...wonder if those things handle corners better than the 4 wheeler???

They're all over the place here in California.  I could put one in the back of my truck they're so small.

"...back of my truck." [!!!]  What're you doing driving a truck, Chicos?  C'mon, bro, remember, RENEWABLE ENERGY IS HOMELAND SECURITY.

I bet the team is thrilled.  A Smart Car would be WAY easier to pull.

He probably has a need.  Or maybe he just wants to drive a truck.  Go live in China if you like to dictate what people are allowed to do.

no doubt.  Hard to haul around a ladder to do the directv dish installs on a smart car.   :D

I would consider a smart car for a city car, but the gas mileage is not that great.  For the 1/2 of a car that it is, I would expect better than 33 city and 40 highway.  It only seats 2.  Why not just buy a corolla or a smaller car that can actually seat 4 or five people and get decent mileage?  If this car got 60 mpg, I'd probably buy one. They are really nice inside and have good crash test ratings (although the rear impact rating is a little low).  I don't understand why it doesn't get better mileage.

I'm providing more carbon for the plants to grow...they do still need carbon dioxide, right?  And finally, I like my truck, I can haul a lot of crap in it if I wish, I go camping with the wife and kids a lot, and I generally like the idea that I used to live in a country and state that allowed me to do what I want...I'm trying to hang onto that little piece of nostalgia while I still can  (my truck also gets about 20mpg so it's hardly the worst thing on the road).

Chicos you're driving a truck now?  What happened to you little Toyota?  Did you put too many miles on it?

I'm still hoping Volkswagen will bring the Polo to America.  A stylish (small) car that gets 60 to 70 miles per gallon.  Sign me up!!

200,000 miles on my Celica....CarMax offered me $500.  I told them to pound sand, sold it myself for $2000.  Bought a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with only 8600 miles on it.  You can call it a semi-middle age crisis.  I had a truck for years but when my wife was pregnant with our first child, I had to get rid of it.  Now that the kids are old enough, I've had a hankering for a long time to get my truck back.   ;)

'Smart' promotion by MU

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (NY Warrior)

Now this is a great promotion by Marquette:

Marquette Athletics announced Saturday that two students will win a blue or gold Marquette-themed Smart Car as part of the 2008-09 Fanatics Rewards Program. The Smart Cars are courtesy of Bergstrom Automotive and have a retail value of about $17,000 each.

With the new freshmen on campus and the rest of the student body returning, the athletic department is pulling out all the stops to rally the base to maintain a high level of interest in the program.

The incoming crop of freshmen students figure to be at the institution for another stellar era of hoops --- Rivals.com currently has Buzz Willliams' 2009 recruiting class as the 8th best in the nation (and incredibly, only the fourth best in the Big East).  With the recent departure of Trevor Mbakwe, Buzz will be able to smartly add to the haul in the coming months.  Talk about it at MUScoop.
