I've heard that (one of) the Purdue Premium board(s) is saying we're a possibility to play them in the Wooden Classic in Indy.

UW, Tenn, Dayton & Northern Iowa were all in place by TC but adding Purdue would be a nice addition by Buzz.  I'm sure there's no way it will happen though b/c we know we're maxed out on the sked.

I think I started that rumor, as I've been wanting that game for awhile.  However, I talked to some "higher ups" in the Purdue program on Monday, and they did not know who they were playing in that game yet.

jutaw22mu

this would be great since i am currently @ purdue.  would be nice to see MU in indy.  doesnt seem too far-fetched since DJ is a senior and Indy is about 1-1.5 hrs from Richmond.

also we could claim ownership of the big 10 by beating Purdue and Wisconsin in the same year (both in the top 3 of that conference and arguably the top 2 teams).

Mayor McCheese

can we play Indiana and TC and shove it in his face... man would I love that

TC will never do it.  But wouldn't it be fun to see him cry ala Rob Jeter after our starters are still in with a 35 point lead?

jutaw22mu

it would be funnier to see him cry after we play our walkons for 15 minutes in the second half and still maintain a 30pt margin of victory.

Did I hear Dayton!??  Arrrgh!!!  My bet is it's at Dayton too.  Remember every year having to play the conference tourney in that dump?

MR.HAYWARD

Dayton????   Where did anyone hear that...unless i see something to the contrary I firmly doubt that.  Dayton stiffed MU on the road game at MU in 2004 and they really ruffled some MU feathers in doing it.

Chili

dayton is also part of the tournament mu is in this year.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Dayton is one of the schools, along with MU, Auburn and Northern Iowa, participating in the Chicago Invitational this year. I believe Marquette opens with Northern Iowa and then, perhaps, plays Dayton. I'm not sure if it's a tournament format (i.e. winners the first night play one another the second) or the opponents are set already.

While Indiana would never accept it, I would like to see TC's reason for declining the game if it was offered.

Buzz Williams already said he (Buzz) wouldn't play it, at least that's my interpretation.  Doesn't do any school any favors is the way I understood his explanation.

See video starting at 14:14

"Would you ever schedule Indiana"

Buzz "I don't think so.....I don't know that that's right for Marquette.....I don't know what the benefit would be to it"

In other words, its not that Indiana turns us down, but rather the way Indiana turns us down. ;)

It would likely be a diplomatic version of not wanting to play a game where the other team would have a huge chip on it's shoulder.  That would probably come out something like not wanting to play a game where the head coach is a friend or former colleague.

Its bad enough when someone on your team makes one or two statements that make for bulletin board material.  Its another when the very existence of your program and head coach is the motivating factor.  The fact that people know why the game wouldn't be played, but still want to put Crean on the spot publicly is probably a good demonstration of why Crean wouldn't want to play the game.

ChicosBailBonds

Again, Buzz doesn't want to play the game either....directly from his mouth in that video.  This is hardly just a Crean saying no.  Buzz called Crean one of his good friends and sees no benefit in playing IU.

BrewCity83

Right...Buzz, being the high class individual that he is, wouldn't want to put his friend in an embarrassing position.

But what happens if Crean runs circles around Williams in only Buzz' 7th game as a high-major head coach?

Can't take that risk.

Buzz could stop that simply by putting in a zone defense.

I think he would call that a "winning defense" to go along with his "winning offense"   ;)
