We're about a third of the way through the season, and so far, Kam Jones has been really good. Really good as in "better than most Wooden Award winners of the last 15 years" good. Good as in "performing at a level no one in T-Rank history has ever performed" good. Let's dig into the numbers to see just how good Jones has been.

Let's get Cheech & Chong for Senior day and then recruit anyone named Tyrone.

Not out do.  Join in.

The bad news is I have wasted a thread title.  And, it turns out I used Kam-pfire last season.  Can't repeat myself.

Damn, that's good. Should've workshopped a little longer.

Can't wait for Sean to return.  Good luck to our opponents trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Great stuff Brew!  Thank you for the research.  Just confirms what we are seeing during games.  Kam is a special player.  If he continues to perform like this his impact will be Wade-like to this program.  I for one will be enjoying every moment of it.

Thanks for another great article! Always enjoy your analyses.

Great stuff, brewski.

I have said a version of this to my MU text-chain buddies when Kam gets a foul called on him: "Miya's website also rates Jones as the #1 most indispensable player in the country."

Kam must stay out of foul trouble (and REALLY must stay healthy!) because he has to be able to play as much as Shaka wants to play him. He can't get into foul trouble. The fall-off from him to anybody who would replace him is too large.

The offensive numbers in your article are staggering. It's hard to say that any player in America is having a better season through 10 games than Kam Jones is. Even defensively - my eye test tells me it's still not really a strength of his, but the numbers are impressive.

This is the biggest thing. I love how much Kam has worked on his defense over his career. He's so gifted offensively he was always gonna have a great career. But the D improvement has been fantastic

That said, I am a ok if he tones down some of the D effort at times to avoid some of the early foul trouble he's run into. Wisconsin was a good example of he was getting up close on guys and playing physical and really playing with fire then finally got called on the 2nd. Weaker D aggressiveness but more Kam is a fair trade off.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

I think Kam picks up his second foul in the first half on purpose so he can get a rest.

I think it's hard because Chase and Stevie are such clear defensive standouts. I heartily recommend the Paint Touches article on Ross. At Marquette, Kam is our third best on the perimeter. Almost anywhere else he's the best defender too. We really have an embarrassment of riches in terms of defensive guard depth.

It seems appropriate to share the reference with folks who may not get it. I remember it, maybe not from when it came out in 1973, but not long after. Cheech and Chong...ha ha!

Thanks, Brew, good stuff. It's also good that he picked up his FT shooting since he was a frosh.

FairWeatherEagle

Finished it. Very nice. Good background tales. Thanks. "The-MUSCOOP" is what I call that gliding shot KJ totally controls around the basket.
