I have a daughter in a private school in Texas and some of the most frequent questions asked by parents of incoming freshmen are "should I get my son/daughter weekly or twice weekly maid service for their dorm", and "can you recommend a good car service for my kid because I don't trust Uber". ::)

I can not wrap my head around the idea that a kid would make the Lincoln Towncar wait because the maid is late.
Oh good God!

If my children wanted to go somewhere at college, THEY WALKED!

Or if it was daytime, they rode their bikes.

Maid service? Geez, I work too damn hard for my money to pay someone to clean up after my children. My son tried to get a cab or an uber to take him to the hospital when he had a gall bladder attack and there wasn't one operating. Got a friend to take him.

I can hardly wait until these spoiled idiots reach the workforce. By then, if I'm not retired, that will do it!

Consider that it is their parents asking these questions.

Agreed. Splitting a cab four ways was the height of luxury for me at MU. Maybe 5 times my 4 years. I remember a good stretch of the legs walking from Summer Fest back to MU.

My daughter, the second child I'm sending to MU and a freshman in the Fall,  was all over it.  As soon as she could log on to buy, she did.  My wife made sure of it.  Will be fun having two kids a MU this year.  Will be up for plenty of games.
This is so great.....my rising junior is excited for her 3rd year of bball season tickets....what a time to be a student.

Makes sense. Gotta know if ice and a case of beer will fit or if the kid needs a cooler to quickly cool some beer.
I was thinking the kid is a heavy puker.

Exactly where my mind went. Small objects can fill up with puke quite quickly. For example, maybe a plastic cup on the table you're standing at over at Pizza Joe's. Ooops

I don't think I ever took a cab during my MU years. Freshman year was all about walking downtown and to the lakefront. When we got the U-Pass in 1995 that was the only way to go. And I remember walking back from the East Side a few times when my buddies and missed the bus after bar time.

Eh. My kid went to school where I worked. He lived on campus and I rarely saw him.

It's about mindset.

My high school (MUHS) was further from home than my college (MU).  I never went home. My Chicago friends all saw their folks / family more. I rarely slept at home.  Hegs seemed like it was open 365 so I can recall great Thanksgiving nights / Christmas nights etc back on campus after family holiday meals.

As you said, it's all about mindset.
