We had Doc Rivers, Wes Matthews, and Jordan Love in the house.  How incredible is that?

UW fans gotta be feeling REALLY bitter about Love being at the game.

I could listen to Shaka for hours...if you haven't listened to it look into the Doug Gottlieb pod 4 part series.  Shaka is so so good!

Shaka really knocks it out of the park in these aspects of program building. They have a good relationship with the Bucks, they went up to tour Lambeau and meet the packers, they chatted with Dwade on a boat in the pacific ocean while simultaneously knocking off blue bloods in Maui, etc. All very cool experiences for the team and helps make MU the place to be for a high level D1 player.

I have to admit that three years ago I was hoping MU would hire Moser. I am so glad they hired Shaka instead. Great coach, quality human being, and an outstanding representative of the university.

Me too. I partially redeemed myself (sez me) by posting that Shaka was a "very close second" choice for me a couple of hours before it was announced that Shaka was hired. SO glad MU chose Shaka.

Damn!  That press conference was good.  I don't normally watch/listen often but I should and wouldn't watch any if the links weren't posted here.  Thanks to Herman and Tower who normally do this for the group.

Shaka once mentioned that he watched every Saban press conference even though he never met him because he's the GOAT at his level.

In the same token, I watch every Shaka press conference that I can get my hands on.
I feel like I learn something from every single one.

Imo, how Shaka represents himself, the program and MU far surpasses his on court success. Every MU alum should feel very good about the face of the university.

Truthfully, I think the excitement around the program reflects how Shaka is viewed by the MU community. We have a good teams and good runs under, KO, Crean and Buzz and never felt like everyone was all in. The attendance at the games is pretty damn cool imo, and it has more to do than just having a good basketball team.

At the block party last summer I was strolling around and saw Shaka standing by a tent waiting for the presentation that was coming later. I decided to walk over and introduce myself and he started asking me questions about how long I'd been a follower of MU.

My two adult  daughters (both alumni) who were with me saw me talking to him so they came over and joined in. My oldest daughter who is a first grade teacher mentioned his wife's work with kids so they started talking about that. We must have chatted for about 10 minutes and finished with a picture with Shaka and my girls.

He couldn't have been more gracious and genuine.

I've been going to games for a long time and I can't remember a time where the fans were so aligned with what the coaching staff was trying to do. It was close with Buzz.

All the EGB/kills/deflections stuff may seem corny but it makes a difference. There was a moment yesterday that was a true representation of the culture. The crowd's reaction after Jop's two deflections and the chest bump was awesome. We understand what the team and coaches value, and vice versa. Then Benny's block and the and one... place was up for grabs.

I totally agree with this. When the crowd roars for a deflection or hustle play, it absolutely "rises the tide." Sure, oops are fun as are big threes, but man, even as a self proclaimed Jop denier, I jumped out of my seat and screamed when he brought it on D followed by the chest bump. And that and one, well, maybe he's making a dent in my fanatical stubbornness with him. He was awesome. I'm pretty sure I even did the call me. Perhaps I'm alongside the Jop Wagon.

Usually the crowd follows how MU is playing versus the crowd leading. When MU was struggling in the 1st, the kills weren't coming and it was the crowd who picked up the team I thought.

Crean had deflections but everyone thought it was another gimmick.  Shaka quantified it and said if you get more than that, the team wins 99% of the time. Three kills in a row with Wojo's defense? Miracle. Quantifying it at FiFo really involves the fan (versus watching at home which Scoopers defaulted to during WOJID).
