Marquette rang in the New Year with a win at Villanova. As Shaka Smart now has more wins at their campus facility (2) than every other non-Nova coach since the Big East Reformation (1), they have to change the name of the building. Sorry Nova Nation, but those are the rules.

Today, Cracked Sidewalks keeps ringing that New Year bell as we check out Marquette's movement on the S-Curve and a tourney bracket that could see Shaka Smart take on the man he replaced at Texas and his former employer themselves.

We R Final Four

Marquette is up to 27 on our S-Curve and a projected 7-Seed. In the bracket, they have an interesting path that begins with Bobby Hurley ahead of potential matchups between former Texas coaches Smart and Rick Barnes in the second round with the winner likely getting Texas in the Sweet 16.

"Likely" opponents in the sweet sixteen (late March) on Jan 1st. I wonder the odds of this actual happening, considering we have potentially 20 more games before selection Sunday.

I think it's more likely we see Texas in the second round or Elite 8. But as the bracket is primarily for entertainment purposes (the S-Curve representing where things now stand) that's not really the point.

We are definitely playing at Wachovia next year, right?

I feel like 90% of the game at Nova have been on campus

Cool, my favorite message board threads - speculating on NCAA matchups in early January.

Let's revisit in March and see how likely that is.
