Bryce Aiken - Markus 2.0
« on: January 16, 2022, 08:09:06 AM »
Did anyone else watching the game think that there were incredible similarities of physical build, playing style of Bryce Aiken to Markus?
And congratulations to the team for a gritty win.

He reminded me of Myles Powell.

The difference is that Aiken had twice his season average, but for Markus that would be an average game.

Yes,  my son said that to me during the game.  He made some incredible shots while being well guarded on several occasions.

I looked up at the scoreboard and his team had lost, so I definitely see the resemblance.

He had a fantastic first half, but the second showed why he is a 25 year old graduate student who played at Harvard before this.

Markus 0.5 maybe. Good game but no where near 2 time AA talent.
I'll stick with my opinion on Gold.  He'll be in foul trouble within the first eight minutes.

in height and scoring ability, maybe. Otherwise personality wise no similarities at all. Markus would never cuss at opponent fans.

Not really close. If you squint really hard and only watch a highlight reel, maybe you can see Markus.

But Markus was an All American with a crazy ability to score at any time. Bryce is a guy that has flashes of it, but doesn't measure up on a consistency level.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Agreed. I find this thread a bit offensive to Markus. We're comparing an all-time program great to a 25-year-old whiny flopper on Seton Hall because he had a pretty good scoring output one time against Marquette? I'm pretty close in height/weight to Markus and Aiken, should we be compared as well?

Markus spent four years at Marquette, and is in his second season as a professional, and is three years younger than Aiken.

How are you from beyond the arc?  Do you have any eligibility?

I liken my offensive game to Derrick Wilson without the passing or ball control. Defense is more like Rowsey.

Aiken is a career 34% 3-pt shooter, and 40.6% overall from the floor.

Howard was a 43% 3-pt shooter, and shot 46% overall from the floor.

Not even close.

I don’t think anyone really thinks this is a good comparison.  It was a “Markus Like” performance in the first half.  Nothing more.

The OP did solely mention build and playing style, not prowess or accomplishments. Which I tend to agree with.

!! After seeing the post and re-watching the last 10 mins of the game, I very much agree in terms of “build and playing style.”  I couldn’t believe I didn’t think of that during the game. He had the D so off balance with the combo of hesitation drives and step back 3s, which was very similar to Markus senior year. Obviously with 13 pts a game as a 10 year college veteran he isn’t as skilled as Markus.

As several posters pointed out, he had an edge and clearly barked at the crowd to stfu. There was also an interesting moment with 5:23 left involving Aiken. As he brought the ball up, Morsell turned around to his teammates and clapped, like “let’s get a stop.” Aiken saw it and attacked. Morsell was off balance having just turned around and been caught off guard. Aiken stuck a 3 and there was an immediate timeout. The camera caught Aiken saying what clearly looked like, “He stupid!” Have to hand it to him, it was a smart play.

Seton Hall always plays with an edge and is easy to dislike for me. Aiken fits in well.

I don't believe there is any record of Markus ever telling the crowd to f*ck themselves.
Have some patience, FFS.

Aiken had a good game, but Markus did it much more consistently.

Looking forward to the rematch in 2 weeks. I’m sure Morsell will be on him all game this time around.
