Great picture. I loved watched Bo's jumper. It was a thing of beauty.

Sorry gang. They're all great but only this one still makes me tear up. That night was something else. We'd fought so hard for so long. These guys had the courage and talent to bring one home for us.

Having watched us get so close in 1969, 1971, 1974 and 1976, it was incredible to see us -- and Al -- get to the promised land. When you think of how many schools play Division 1 basketball and how few actually have won an NCAA, we're in rare company.

We were all so young back then -- and we're not anymore. But that night was the meaning of "We are Marquette!"

Gosh, I hope we do it again!

My favorite pic is the one with Michael Wilson standing on the rim.

After Doc made the game winning shot we all rushed the floor. Michael asked me and another guy to lift him up to the rim so he could climb up there. As we hoisted him I pulled off his shoe to keep as a souvenir. He got up to the rim, looked down at me and said, "Give me my damn shoe". I gave it back to him. Anyway, that is why he is holding his shoe in his hand in that iconic photo.

We all make our contributions - mine was to pull off a shoe.

Great story! Thankfully you didn't grab his shorts.

Slim, I know someone who ripped off the NBC Sports banner from The Omni in Atlanta after the game on Championship Monday. And no, it was not me, hey?

I don't know if there are pics, but after the USF NIT game and we rushed the floor we were near the scorers table and Will Gates was up there dancing. He asked one of my buddies for the MU flag he had (we borrowed if from a guy on our floor) and we never got it back. It's all good though (and we bought the dude a new flat).

A few weeks prior to the NIT run I had decided to transfer. The cold and darkness of February, the cost, the difficulty of the classes were all wearing on me. That night changed my mind. Little did I know that there was an HS sophomore watching that game with her dad, who would only allow her to go to a Jesuit school if she went out of state. She started looking at MU after that night (despite her priest pushing her to go to Xavier, his alma mater). She and I got married 9 years later.

After we beat South Florida in the '94 '95 NIT, a buddy showed up at the Lance with the NIT Floor sticker and a bag of MU uniforms.

Things happen.

We beat South Florida in 1995 NIT.  Year before was our S16 with O'Neill.

I remember seeing the guys who took the sticker off the floor as we walked back to campus. There were some others who took the sideline chairs with them too.
