$100 gets you closer to a Hummer

The new GMC Hummer EV will be unveiled during Game 1 of the WS, (or during tonight's episode of The Voice, if that's more your speed).  Besides a pre-owned Chevy Bolt, I've never sold an electric vehicle.

The truck has been shroud in secrecy, but is supposed to have the ability of 1,000 horsepower.  Our rep from GM made the analogy of electric vs. gas golf carts.  Your gas cart putters; your electric cart takes off like a bat outta hell.

Also new, GM is taking refundable, online reservations for the first trucks.  They are asking for 100 bucks and supposedly modeling after the unveiling of the new Ford Bronco, (which, I've heard, now have a two-year waiting list).

Hummer and Electric Vehicle seem diametrically opposed.
Good for GM, I hope it sells.

Between these and the Mustang Mach-Es, I'm really curious to see how EVs sell in these new lines.

I would imagine they won't take at first, but once the inevitability sets in, people will get right with it. The percentage of the R&D pipeline at the major manufacturers that is filled with EVs is pretty wild.  Take Honda for example, which despite making real strides competitively, just pulled out of F1 because there isn't any R&D value there for them any longer.  Granted, that was their Asian division and not US, which is probably leans a fair bit more non electric power, but the writing is on the wall across the board.

You guys disappoint me.

This thread title has been up for an hour and not a single juvenile joke about it?
Have some patience, FFS.

Tesla is light-years ahead of any other EV manufacturer.

VW and Kia/Hyundai are the only big guys that will be able to compete.

I think US manufacturers are going to be crushed long-term.

The Hummer will be a worse Cybertruck.

I do not own a Tesla vehicle or own Tesla stock.

Crabwalk mode is cool.  But it'll probably just get used for parallel parking...

edit 1:
Oh, apparently the $100 hummers are all gone.  You can still be waitlisted though.

And crabwalk won't be available until 2023 :(

American made I totally agree.  Otherwise I think the German makers are pretty lock step with them.  I think Tesla likely has a leg up and advantage in future battery tech, but otherwise BMW and VW (especially with Porsche competing in the high luxury space) are making great strides.

we have a 2006 H3 with 120k miles.  runs great!  took it down to Az in 2010.  it has withstood months of dormancy during the HOT summers.  cranks right up.

Rivian is going to do well.   Lucid has really advanced the range.   I am curious if either will be able to surpass Tesla on build quality.

GM doesn't have even 1 working prototype yet.

Farce.
