NCAA targets mid-September for decision on college basketball start
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/29681930/ncaa-targets-mid-september-decision-college-basketball-start

The NCAA is prepared to shift the Nov. 10 start date for college basketball if necessary, according to a statement released Monday by Dan Gavitt, senior vice president of basketball.

By mid-September, the governing body will announce its first crucial decision about the upcoming season. Per NCAA rules, full practices can start 42 days before a team's first game. In the statement, Gavitt said "contingency" plans have been developed that will allow the NCAA to move the start date for practices and games if necessary due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, the Pac-12 announced that the earliest its teams will play basketball is Jan. 1. Speculation throughout college basketball has centered on conference-only schedules for multiple leagues.

Last week, Gavitt told ESPN that NCAA officials had discussed the specifics of a potential NCAA tournament in a bubble, including replacement teams if squads are forced to quarantine due to positive tests for COVID-19. Gavitt said the NCAA prefers a traditional format in March and April but also is assessing the costs and logistics of a nontraditional arrangement.

The cancellation of last season's men's and women's postseason tournaments reportedly cost the NCAA more than $375 million.

Bubble the tourney ... replacement teams if squads test positive.

Who knew that the term "bubble team" would become a literal reality one day!

That's still not what literal means.

Then correct it

Bubble the tourney ... replacement teams if squads test positive. All replacement teams to sleep in an actual bubble made from a newly designed 3:3:2:1 mixture of chewed Big League Chew, Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape, Mr. Bubbles Bubble Bath, and Dawn Ultra until called in for the tournament.

I think the "replacement team" should be whomever wins the campus intramural basketball championship.

I think it will happen.  But won't go smoothly.

I'm bullish on a conference only season.  I happen to think the Big East is probably one league that is preparing for all scenarios

To resurrect and slightly alter a line from spring... The good news for Marquette is that Wojo's defense is never within 6 feet of the offense anyway.

If it is conference games only how will they determine who makes the tournament? I'd rather scrap the season than have the players lose a year  of eligibility by not playing a complete season.

Conference only is still 2/3 of a season.

Covid saves Woj's ass again, hey?

The way things are going Wojo should survive until Crean is available again.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

They don't cover anyone, they think it is a f'ing disease like their d!cks will fall off
https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=54923.0

The above quote was from EIU's head coach Jay Spoonhour (Son of the great coach Charlie Spoonhour).

I know this because I sat in row one behind the visitors' bench and EIU does not use stools near the foul line like MU or most other coaches.  They sit on the bench and given my seats, I was literally in the huddle.

The exact quote came mid-way through the second half when EIU was up 7.  Spoonhour had a giant sh!t eating grin on his face and said (paraphrasing but I think I'm close) ...

"They don't cover anyone, they think it is a f'ing disease like their d!cks will fall off if they actually cover anyone."  He then went on tell then to pound the rock into Dama, which they did and it worked.

Newsdreams

Really late. They should had made plans based on 2-3 different scenarios. By now we know it is what it is, and they could have decided. Nothing will really change between now and September.

NCAA is two years late on their get tough violation Summer announcements.  Maybe by 2022 they will cancel the 2020 season.

The D1 Council voted to allow all tournaments except Basketball to reduce the number of teams currently selected for their tournaments, there is a possibility the same could be done for hoops....or an increase in teams, though that would open Pandora's Box for doing that in the future too.
