Is this rock bottom?

Or, will it get worse before it gets better?

(I think it gets worse.)

We lose all the remaining  games then I call the bottom. Time to flush at that point and start over.

Not close to 'rock bottom' yet.

Next year will be much worse than this year. No chance of postseason games next year.

MU is above that now.  MU is about student athletes.  Ones that can only handle a simple pick n roll offense, unlike Buzz's bunch who ran something much more complex.

We have a point guarg (Symir). We just do not have an offense that utilizes one.

Dukiet was rock bottom and this is not even close. That said, the state of the program is not very good. I do believe last night may, or should be, a tipping point for the program. Time will tell which way it goes but not overly optimistic.

Whoa, time out!  Talk about a need for perspective.  Mike Deane was targeting recruits that would have been grateful to play for Whitewater.  Dukiet was the bottom in just about any measurement you might want.  I'm not sitting around the campfire singing "kumbaya" with the projo gang, but there is no way this is rock bottom.

Connie,
I always say you can't win without good players but you can lose with them if you can't Coach. This may be MU situation right now.MU does not have great talent but they have enough that the situation should be better than it is.

During the Dukiet and Deane era (sort of), the University did not make the financial commitment to the program.  It was difficult to ask, "where is the return on investment" when there was no investment.

Marquette now spends (a lot) on basketball, and the return is consistently below the benchmark and peer groups.

This team is not long on talent, but a high level coach definitely could have had far better results both last season and this season. It goes back to my rant of late season that there is not a true system in place or Wojo takes guys that do not fit the system. There is enough talent on this team, especially with an elite scorer, that the results could have been better with a very good system coach. That said, I would take upper level talent over upper level coach. Currently both are missing at MU.

Agree, (although I do question the true extent of the talent)but the question was "rock bottom."  This is incredibly frustrating because of the recruits and the commitment of resources, but not the across the board embarrassment of Dukiet.

Watching the game last night for the first 1.5 halves, I kept thinking there is no way MU could/should lose this game, because they have superior players. Then they were simply out coached. WOj’s strategy was to let MH dribble out the shot clock and hopefully get fouled. It almost worked the way the refs called a foul every time someone breathed on MH. DePaul should have won going away. They absolutely out played and out coached MU the last 7 minutes or so. The MH free throws kept MU in the game.

Let me stipulate that they are fine student athletes, work hard, and represent the university well.  Besides Howard, where is the elite talent?

Is there anyone else on this team that would get significant minutes on the the 2003 Final Four team?  Can you see the other members of the team serving in a meaningful support role for a team that makes a deep tournament run?

I love Jayce's rebounding, so maybe him as the big off the bench (Sanders role).  Could Bailey or Sacar play Townsend's role as well as Todd?  Maybe.  A more interesting question.  Our starting guards were Diener and Wade.  Where would senior Markus fit on that team?  Move him to the 2, Wade to the 3 and Townsend to the bench?  Is that team better or worse than the actual 2003 team?

Goose and Connie I agree.I think our biggest problem on the court is at the point guard position. You need leadership on the court and most times it comes from the point guard.Unfortunately it seems Wojo does not feel this way because in his time at MU that position has been lacking.McEwen averages only 24% of MU assists. That is not good for the point guard position. It should be over 30%.He does not create and can not run an offense.People say offense has not been the problem. It seems that way because Markus has bailed the offense out way to many times. It is a problem. You can win a lot of games with good guards and not much up front. The days of Meminger,Walton,Worthen,Henry,Miller,Diener and others I have missed seem many years ago.MU was always Point Guard U.Sad state of affairs now.

I still think we miss "Big Ed". Another big at listed 240. Played with
fire and moved bodies. Think John and Johnson are doing great.
Need one more "Big".
