"I hate everything about this job except the games, Everything. I don't even get affected anymore by the winning, by the ratings, those things. The trouble is, it will sound like an excuse because we've never won the national championship, but winning just isn't all that important to me." Al McGuire

Thanks for posting. Didn't know much about the guy. Enjoyed reading about him.

Very accomplished man.
Met him in 1969 when he was at the old Continental Bank in Milwaukee.  He was the real deal as a young man 4 or 5 years out of college at the time.

I noted his success came while still relatively young . In our computer/internet era we have many who succeed while young...but this was very extraordinary and much rarer in this earlier time....
Consider,...this guy was in 6o's 7o's in banking,  a wait your turn kid, seniority oriented, stodgy brick and mortar business, and wow......before his 20th year reunion (class of '65),.....

MU is naming the business school after him (1984).

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

MU did not name the business school after him.  It's not the Straz College of Business. They named the building that houses the business school after him.
Have some patience, FFS.

A very good man. Thanks for sharing, Cheeks. A great picture of my father in law and David on the MU announcement, which reminded me of how fast time goes.

The Tampa PBS station recently re-aired a half hour interview with David from 2018 as a tribute.

I thought I'd watch a couple minutes to see what he was like.  I ended up watching the whole thing.   Fascinating career/life.

Did not realize he ran for mayor of Tampa Bay recently.
