Good stuff in this video.   Greg blocking Markus' shot.    Markus getting the rebound and scoring anyway.    Nice drives by Jamal.    The freshmen don't look tentative.

Mike Deane would have called time out after that aborted opening tip.

This is going to be a tough-nosed team.  So many switchables.

That Jamal Cain take in the last sequence was nice to see. Don't know that I've ever seen him do a move like that in a game.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Jamal has to find a way to believe and take it to actual games.   There are skills and building blocks.

I laughed out loud. Deane called a TO in the first minute more often than any coach I've ever seen.

Yes.  And subbed in for any non star that gave up a basket.   Of course, he played a lot of games in the 40s and 50s, so...

Man, am I glad I missed out on the Mike Deanne era.

Wasn't as bad as some make it out to be.

Deane coached well.  But you could see the writing on the wall with recruiting.  Very smart move by the administration to move on from him when they did despite his record.

Lenny, can you tell them about Bob Dukiet.

Shooter McGavin

Unfortunately some see the opposite with Wojo.  Can recruit but can't coach.  I hope those people are wrong and he continues to improve coaching wise and we have something special going in a couple of years.

Agreed. Couldn't recruit but he could coach. And calling timeouts at the beginning of halves is something Pop does if it starts bad.

His years were only good when he had Kevin's players.Once they all left it was curtains

Jamal needs to attack like that in games.

His minutes will sky rocket if he can do that

I remember Deane famously saying that most recruits get only one scholarship offer.  That tells you all you need to know about the recruits he went after.  He did go all in once - for Mike Bargen (sp?)  - and he landed a guy ranked around 127 or so.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

You talking about the meanie who caused Henry Ellenson's dad to transfer to Wisconsin?  His name did rhyme with Marquette, and how often are you gonna find that?

Deanes recruiting class of Namaka, Diggs, Cordell Henry along with Brian Wardle left Crean with something to work with.  The point is that the Deane years weren't that bad, although it wasn't going to get any better.
