This is kind of like asking which of your children you love the most. But if I had to pick, I'd say Jimmy Butler. I appreciated the way he came in an contributed right away by accepting a role as a defender and rebounder -- then improved as a player and stepped up as a leader each season.

My 13 year old son Travis voted for Diener.

Hmmmmm...I have a 13 year old son named Travis.

Just looking at this from the perspective of the guys I enjoyed watching for a variety of reasons including teamwork and non-basketball contributions:

Davante
Rowsey
Jae
Diener
Heldt
honorable mention:  Otule
had it but lost it because he seems to have turned into a prick:  JFB
Better now than then:  Buycks, Mo, Wes

If Markus leads MU to a Big East title and/or makes some noise in the NCAA tournament (i.e. a Sweet 16), his beloved rating will skyrocket.

The Amigos did neither of those things.

Jerel McNeal was my favorite Warrior. Surprised not to see him listed as much.

PRN is just one of those guys who deify those who left.    The Hausers, Deonte, Dawson, etc.

Among those who stayed, my personal top 5....

Markus
Butler
Crowder
Dom

Those are the 4 I can think of who could put the team on their back and will a win.

Thanks again for all your responses, here's the writeup, with the full tally at the bottom.

Just realized I've had Paint Touches on adblock for all this time. Just turned it off for you guys. I'm saying something in case it'll prompt someone else to do the same.

Vander didn't stay 4 years, but he did put the team on his back in a couple of huge games.

But I do like where you're going with your list -- and I would, because I chose those 4 also. (Along with Diener.)

Travis picking up some extra votes in this poll today.

My problem with this is that it's limited to since Wade. The real characters that I loved came in the Al days, when the team fit its coach. Since you've limited it to the 2000s, I'd go this way:

1) Jae Crowder -- He was and is a winner. Loved his hustle and his unconventional look.

2) Matt Heldt -- Epitome of the one for others attitude. A great young man.

3) Robert Jackson -- Without Robert Jackson's one year, the final four would not have been possible.

4) Markus Howard -- Enough said.

5) Jerel McNeal -- Pardon me if I spelled his name wrong, but he was one heck of a ballplayer.

And my all-time favorite:

Bob Lackey -- Meanest SOB in the valley on the court. Had a swagger all his own off the court. People didn't mess with Lackey. Just ask the University of South Carolina!
