This guy sincerely sounds like an absolute legend, can't believe I've never heard of him

He was an absolute legend.

I had never heard this story before.  MU was kicked out of the NCAAs during the tournament because of Bob Lackey eligibility with agent?  https://www.nytimes.com/1972/03/13/archives/marquette-out-of-ncaa-play-player-refuses-to-sign-an-affidavit-on.html

MU was reinstated.  Sauceda in the middle of it as MU AD. https://www.nytimes.com/1972/03/14/archives/ncaa-reinstates-marquette.html

Really?  I like it a lot.  More drama at the end is good.

I'm all for getting rid of the bonus as well but I don't understand why they need to go to this quarter system.  Do they want to decrease free throws?  Why not just raise the bonus from seven?

Is drama the way to fairly setup games?  Every other time when you score, you opponent has to go 94 feet.  You get to setup some defense, they have to dribble or pass which takes time....but because you call a timeout you magically no longer have to do this.  You get to gain 50% of the territory and the time that goes along with it not because of any athletic skill, but because you called timeout.  Effectively neutering the accomplishment of the team that likely just scored....considerably.  NBA allows the displacement of time and space just because.

Yes, more drama...but fundamentally poor....you literally do nothing athletically and get a bonus....especially when you can only do it the the last two minutes.  I honestly cannot think of any other rule in sports that gives one a territorial incentive and bonus for doing nothing but take a timeout, and in the process disadvantages the defensive team in the same way for doing nothing but call timeout.  Entertainment is the reason, no question....the wrong approach.  A few years ago NBA was testing in the D League advancement without even needing the timeout.  Beyond dumb.
