Obviously, glad our Lady Warriors won.

I tuned in with about 7 minutes to go. Marquette certainly can't complain about the officiating from that point on. Every time MU drove, our player got the call; every time DePaul drove, there was no call. Heck, even what would have been a huge charge call on Wilborn was changed by a second ref.

The other thing that stood out was how the last couple minutes of a close game can get bogged down and take away a lot of the excitement. Between the time-outs, the fouls/FTs and the replay reviews, the last couple minutes took 20 minutes. Maybe women's hoops would be a great place to test the Elam Ending (maybe exhibition games at first).

I missed the pre-game reception but hope it was fun.

Wow - was this an ugly game.  Both teams had major foul trouble -DePaul had two players foul out while Marquette lost King to fouls with quite a bit of time left and then Hiedeman and Davenport had 4 fouls for awhile.  I wasn't happy with a lot calls.  However, if Marquette had lost this one I think you could point to really poor free throw shooting and some poor decisions.

Two key calls to me that ended up going MU's way were when there was originally an offensive foul called on Amani Wilborn with 6:05 to go in the game and her hoop was waved off but then the refs huddled and changed the call to a DePaul foul and the call was reversed and the hoop counted.  And then with 2:46 to go in a tie game, Erika Davenport drew a charge.  If that call goes the other way, Davenport fouls out and it's a big drop-off if VanKleunen has to come into replace her.  I thought it was a legit charge but wasn't sure how they would call it.

The biggest takeaway I have from this game is they didn't play real well but found a way to win at a tough place to play.  They now have a 3.5 game lead over Butler and 4 game lead over Butler.  I have a feeling MU and DePaul will meet up again in the Big East Tournament.

I had a DePaul fan ask me to move early on because I was being too loud.  I was going to move at first but then realized I wasn't doing anything wrong so I stayed put and that person moved.  I wasn't cussing or yelling at the refs at that point - just cheering as thousands do at a Men's basketball game and no one dare asks them to move for that.  I'm really tired of people acting like you have to sit on your hands at Women's Basketball games...

Definitely a tense game. I had a lot of fun and it was nice to meet a scooper at the reception!

Glad they got a win. See yall on Saturday.

Good recap.

And great job not moving just because some boring, stuffy DePaul fan asked you to. It ain't a church service, it's a basketball game!

Agreed fan thise were two big calls n i think they got the correct.  The gal on Wilborn was moving n heels in the arc.  Great play to win a game by Davenport by taking an awesome charge with 4 fouls.
Personally i dont think we utilize Blockton enuff.  Have said it for 3 years, she is sooooo good, she cannscore in so many ways n is so efficient.  I am all about keeping the others involved but tge more Blockton gets tge ball the better MU is.
Agree on the foul shooting, wilborn was 3-9 before making two late.  Boy would i like to rework her foul shot. Easily fixed cant belive coaches havet work on that.

While it's not unusual to see the senior class struggle from the line, Wilborn isn't usually as off as she was in this game.  I sure was nervous to see her go to the line late after she was basically playing keep away in the back court.  But she proved me wrong and sank both of those free throws - happy to be wrong there :).

While Blockton rightfully gets a lot of notice for her scoring abilities, I think the biggest key for Marquette going forward is Erika Davenport.  It was shown Marquette could adjust and get by without Blockton if they had to when she was hurt.  But MU has no depth in the post and they really need Davenport out there.  It would have been nice had McCoy been able to play this year as I think she would have been great post help for this team but she has other battles right now with her kidney disease.

Don't know when I last saw a baton twirler at a b-ball game.

I don't think I have seen baton twirling in an indoor venue since my high school's talent show in the late 70's.
Have some patience, FFS.

She has said she wants to get a kidney transplant and play again.  Whether that can really happen or not I don't really know.

Unfortunately she's been waiting for a transplant for awhile - hope a donor can be found for her soon.
