I'll gladly wait several hours to get an Au Cheval burger in Chicago, by waiting at a local establishment.

Have done it and will do it again - they're awesome. I do want to get to Little Mott in Logan soon. Also, Small Cheval (at least the original) does a really nice burger with much less wait. Corridor Brewery on Southport also does a solid burger with really great beer.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Does anyone remember MELL's, 14th and Wisconsin or was it 13th?  Now those were burgers, or are all those customers now dead and burried?

I actually agree with this. I would not just eat American cheese by itself or on something like crackers like I would cheddar or others but it is actually the cheese I prefer most on a burger.

I prefer on my breakfast sandwich also.

Shake Shack on Michigan Ave in Chicago is phenomenal. The burgers literally melt in your mouth. Great fries and shakes to boot. Comp to 5 Guys? Get real.

Now they opened the Five Guys on Michigan and Lake so you can do the direct comparison.

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Small Cheval endorsed.

a quality american cheese is the only thing that melts properly. i am not talking kraft singles but quality stuff. Any other cheese just can't compete. Unless you do Merkts Spreads.

Cheddar melts just fine. I also like bleu cheese burgers every once in awhile.

And here in the south, we have something called pimento cheese ... it is wonderful on burgers.

This is offensive.  Many cheeses melt great!

At the right temperature all cheeses melt, even Parmigiano Reggiano.

In NYC for the games (and the inlaws). Just had some cheese fries and a Christmas cookie shake from Shake Shack. Sooooooooo good. Most of their shakes are just good for a fast food joint but the Christmas Cookie shake is on point.

Also, passed the Johnnies in the hotel. They are short this season. I knew that already but they seemed even smaller in person. They are going to be matchup nightmare on offense but so vulnerable in the paint and on the boards.

Has anyone actually cashed in on the free shake? The shake might be free but it’s only free if you buy something

I did. The shake was good, the rest was questionable. Service was poor. The cashier didn't greet us when we came in & when they paged me for my order it wasn't ready, I had to wait 5 minutes at the counter for fries. Why page me if it's not ready? The tables were mostly dirty and no one was cleaning them off.

The free shake aspect is fun, but I doubt I'll take advantage again. Very impressed by the restaurant.

The only reason I have gone to shake shack id the $10 AMEX monthly credit. And even with that, i prefer to use it for grubhub
