The Sam Hauser slander (by omission) is killing me this offseason. Time to put some respeck on his name.

Good article with one notable caveat. There is no slander in any of the Twitter statements or published articles you refer to. Slander refers only to false spoken statements. As these are written statements, it has to be considered libel. I always think of it as "S" is for spoken and slander, "L" is for literature and libel.

There's no slander or libel, I'm just a sucker for alliteration. Forgive me.

I think you just defamed yourself.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Class71

Back to the issue. Should Sam be on the 1st team?  I love seeing Marcus on the list but Sam does more than shoot the ball well from distance. Passing, defense, low turnover rate and rebounding needs to be factored in. Sam is not flashy but maybe that is why he is so good. He is a team player.

A look at usage and %Shots...

Markus 28.8% / 32.7%
Ponds 32.0% / 32.6%
Spellman 17.8% / 19.8% (as a freshman with great teammates)
Govan 24.8% / 28.3%
Powell 21.9% / 24.2%

Sam... 18.1% / 20.8%

The question is where do you project Sam for 2018-19... I'd like to see 22% / 24%... will he get there? If so, he's probably in. If not, there's a reasonable "low-usage" argument for him being out.
The portal is NOT closed.

I laughed when I read the article last week.

I think this guy may have a Hauser complex. He didn't mention Joey with the Newcomers, either.

One of the questions will be where he can maintain his efficiency. Last year he increased both his usage and efficiency. That will be tough to do again. I think 22/24 would make him likely first team, even with a slight dip in efficiency. 24/26 would probably get him into the BEPOY/National All-American conversation. If he can push those numbers into the 28-30 range, he's a national POY candidate. Though making the jump from where he was at to that type of usage is probably more realistic for his senior year.

It seems that Joey got lost between last year and this year.  When he matriculated in January, he was reclassified to 2017, so he is no longer included in the 2018 lists of top players (all the guys who moved up a notch as a result say thank-you).  Technically he will begin this season as a redshirt freshman, not a newcomer.  Same with Brendan, who was counted as part of Marquette's 2016 class (although he will be a regular freshman).  With these "forgotten boys" + Morrow and Chartouny, I don't think the rest of the Big East will know what hit them.
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)
