Anyone watch this? Just finished episode 2, payday/predatory loans.

Quite the conundrum between successful business and ethics.

What, like they are mutually exclusive?
Have some patience, FFS.

I am going to have to watch this one, as my first finance job out of school was at a division of Wells that was knee deep in predatory loans.

Exceptional storytelling. The payday loan episode is easily my favorite so far.

I couldn't believe these guys actually agreed to be interviewed, but I suppose when your assets are being seized, you don't have cash for decent PR counsel...

Might I also recommend Icarus and Wild, Wild Country. Also Netflix productions.

Watched that episode and was thinking the same thing, too... but in some twisted, demented manner, perhaps they thought this would give them a public outlet to plead their side of the story.

They kept clinging to this notion that they didn't do anything illegal because a) that's the way the industry worked and b) everything was disclosed on the forms.  Which, if that was the law at question, they're absolutely right on both counts... they didn't do anything illegal.

But they weren't convicted because they were ripping people off, they were convicted because they were operating a "bank" in several states in which it was not licensed/legal to charge the interest rates they were.

As long as MITHC doesn't drop this weekend, I plan to binge the rest.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Thanks for the recommendation. Gotta check it out.

Episode 3 done. Pharmaceuticals, price gouging, wall Street investment.

Another example of shady ethics. Makes me almost sick to my stomach. These big hitters are also the ones influencing our government through financial contributions.

Even though not applicable to this episode, white collar crimes are not punished severely enough.

Bit of a binge tonight. Just finished episode 4. Drug cartels, terrorist organizations, banks and money laundering.

Outrageous. HSBC admits to everything. And nothing happens. A small fine.

Episode 5. Stolen maple syrup in Canada. Weird focus. Missed the ability to dive into monopolistic practices or corporate influence on government. Almost felt like a mocumentary.

Episode 6. Trump. We all have our opinions.

Last 2 episodes weren't my favorites. I liked the first few as it looked at the financials/stats/laws and was less narrative driven.
