Defense
« on: January 14, 2018, 10:06:47 AM »
In all accounts, Morrow is a nice addition to the team next year as they will have the ability to be a little stronger then in years past.  Can Morrow play D?  Can he
guard on the perimeter?  Basically, can he defend a Keelan Martin type?  Sam is not quick enough or jump good enough to be a great defender.  Matt is not quick either,
Froling slow, and it might Theo next year.  I do not expect Joey to be that good as he will be a freshman.  Elliott is fine but way to skinny and Howard just is not tough enough yet.  Really needs a bigger guard next year.  Anim can play some there, but can not shoot a lick.  Plus why does Wojo not work on a 2/3 or 3/2 zone D.  That
1-3-1 just gives the teams dunks and lay-ups?  I never have seen a team give up more lay-ups then this team does.  Curious if Wojo is a control freak and will not change his ways.  Nothing works, just look at Matt hedging, a joke and the center running around 25 feet from the basket.  You can see a lay-up is coming.  Do not get
it.  Any ideas?

Yay!  Another thread on the defense asking the same questions and making the same oberservations as the other dozen!

Morrow can help by being more of a physical, interior defender. Trust me, we can use more of that.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Agree. I?ve seen Matt and Harry make these little excuse-me bump fouls underneath that become and-ones. If you have to foul there, make it a foul that will affect the shot and give the shooter something to think about.

Over the course of 20 years of following MU, I have seen lots of average athletes play above average defense.  Can we have some average defense please?

Bring back Mike Deane!  I miss those games in the 40s and 50s.

Morrow will make a difference.  I think that is what the OP is asking.

Morrow transferred because he wanted to be a 4. So we will see if he can defend the perimeter as well.

He is a horse! Chicago player that will throw it down!  He is a presence that MU hasn?t seen in years. Not sure how this all worked out but brace yourself, Morrow is a fantastic player on both D and offensively.

Howard not tough enough...? Yeah that's really what's holding him back.

This was pretty hard to read. Seriously the only somewhat positive thing you had to say in your hit piece was about Morrow but you followed it up with "can he play D?".
