If, 25 years ago you would have told me this would happen to nearly anyone else I met during my four years at MU I would have said, no way.  If you would have told me it would happen to Joe Nethen, though I never met him personally, I would have said, oh yeah, I believe that.

I really hope you omitted the Oxford comma on accident.

The Love House

I was at MU when Nethen was there. Didn't really know him but regularly saw him at parties and bars. My favorite encounter was seeing him sitting outside at an after-bar party on the front lawn. It must have been about 3:00 am. He was wearing cut-off camo shorts and black combat boots. 6 feet 8 inches and 250 pounds of drunkenness crammed into a lawn chair. He had a TASER GUN in his hand and for entertainment he would shoot himself in the thigh with it because he thought it was funny how it made his whole leg convulse lol. Probably would have incapacitated a normal sized man, but I must have watched him shoot himself with that taser at least 3 or 4 times and it did nothing but make him laugh. He definitely earned "the Animal" nickname that night!

I've posted this story, but will force you all to read it again.

I lived at McCormick at the same time Nethan did.  One day, I got into the elevator and noticed Joe was inside, with rolled up carpeting (that he may have ripped from somewhere) .. but that he did not have shoes on.   I got in.

We went up, and a floor later more people got on, so I stepped back.  3 seconds went by and I heard a guttural moan -- I had stepped on Joe's toes -- my entire virginal life flashed before my eyes and as the elevator closed, I Indiana-Jonesed out of the elevator and lived to tell this story.

Flash forward to 5 years ago, I see Nethan at a park and ask him if he's Joe Nethan, that I lived at McC in 1987 ..  His first words out of his mouth, I kid you not:

"I didn't hurt you or nothing, did I?"

I was a senior, working in the McCormick cafeteria, when Joe was a freshman.    I witnessed him walking through the lobby outside the cafeteria asking for help changing batteries in his Walkman.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

I'm sorry I missed him by a couple of years, sounds entertaining to have witnessed.
The OP is starting to make more sense now.
