Could it be that the topic is simply a truism?
Are you blind man?  TAMU is clearly agreeing that Wojo's 20 years in a Methodist University, and subsequent coaching, is all part of an anti Catholic agenda that permeates this country.

Wake up and see the reality.

Back on topic, people need to chill on the Wojo firing stuff. It's laughable. I'm not saying he's done a great job coaching, I think its been iffy at best.  I wanted to strangle him during the Pitt game. He's learning on the job. That said, the SHU game was all on the players...grab a freaking rebound!

I've been asking for shooters and he's brought some of the best young shooters in the country. Asked for local talent to come to Marquette, he's done that. Asked for game changing PGs, he has one (maybe 2). Now I'm asking for some defense and toughness and I think that comes next year with Eke and John. We got spoiled with the quick turnaround with Buzz, but he got lucky on a couple of Juco's that turned into NBA players. That happens very rarely and he got 3 of them (DJO included)!
I'm still on the WOJO bus. Still think they make the tourney at 10-8 as well.

Four.  Buycks was a Juco who made the NBA as well.

I agree except for the "got lucky" part.

Buzz has been developing his Jr. College connections forever, the Jr. College coaches identify with him and he with them.

There is nothing wrong with a brotherhood of underdogs.  As Marquette rises to elite status the underdog mentality of an Al McGuire or Buzz gets lost in its lofty self image.  The BOT  thinks Marquette is above the likes of Buzz, pity.

You don't seem to have a clue of some of the things that went on around Marquette that got Buzz extra scrutiny.

Not saying that the reaction was appropriate, but Buzz wasn't some blameless victim.

Couldn't agree more. Give him time!

9-9 and a #1 or 2 seed in the NIT this year sadly. Which I know everyone is not stoked about but hey, the SHU rebound fiasco might cost us.

I would take a NIT championship game over losing in the first round of the NCAA this year (for our players experience sake).

Having said that I would rather be in the big dance.

No way.  I take an NCAA first round loss all day, everyday over an NIT championship.  And it would be great for the seniors to get to experience it, even if it is just one game.  I don't thinkn the experience aspect of it would matter much.

I want to get back to the Tournament, but any postseason invitation is an improvement. Just because I'd rather be dancing doesn't mean a NIT trip couldn't be a ton of fun.

The Pomeroy numbers have me excited. The team is better than last year. I think there was some cautious optimism that we would be, but the loss of Henry had some people thinking we might be worse. I was one of those people at certain points.

After the frustration of the Seton Hall game passed, it does have me optimistic that the team played well on the road against a team that dominated us last year. Granted, it's not the same Seton Hall team, but they still aren't a great matchup.

Everything is not either or, black or white,  MU can be going in ghe right direction and VT can also be going in the right direction, WOJO can be a great coach and BUZZ can also be a great coach, possible, and I  hope so on both counts.

The question is, how does what VT does effect Marquette basketball? And if it doesn't, why do we care?

It doesn't. People just can't let it go. BUZZ left us. (Yes I know the AD situation etc... but it was his choice). Yet here we still argue what we would be like if he was still here.

I am in the pro Wojo camp and I'm sure that is clear to anyone. This team is making leaps up the charts in ability.

It doesn't effect Marquette basketball;  however, since we're in year 3 of Wojo's rebuild, it's worth comparing to a similar situation to try and form a progress report.

Ok, let's compare.

Buzz landed transfers Zach LeDay and Seth Allen; his leading scorer and a second starter.

Wojo landed Wally Ellenson and Gabe Levin; neither are still at Marquette.

Buzz kept at least one VT recruit (name escapes me); 6th man on VT.

Wojo kept one MU recruit in Sandy Cohen; no longer at MU.

Buzz got Marquette recruits Ahmed Hill and Satchel Pierce to follow him to VT; a starter and a player no longer on the team.

Wojo got no Duke recruits to follow him; no Duke recruits are still on the team.

Conclusion: VT has LeDay, Allen, Hill, and the kid that is 6th man.  They should be better than MU this year.

Why? Why not compare it to Howland at Mississippi State? Shaka at Texas? Haith at Tulsa? Anderson at Mizzou? Collins at Northwestern?

You can do that if you want.  I think it's worth comparing to a program that appears to be having success.

If the Badgers are going to make a deep NCAA run, MU being stuck in the NIT is anything but fun.

I remember a certain coach who had two consecutive technical fouls in a national championship game. A coach whose team couldn't close against Ohio State. A coach whose player missed a free throw that cost his team a final four. A coach who had two of his best players turn pro at very inopportune times.

I believe that coach learned. I believe that coach has a statue commemorating his time at Marquette in our practice facility. Like Wojo, I suspect he learned on the job what he needed and what he could and could not do.

Would you rather it be the badgers in the Championship game while we're seeing our worst season in 15yrs again? I'd take at least being in the NIT than nothing.

I don't enjoy them having postseason success, but I'm not going to base our season's success on what happens in Madison.

Don't mess with my mytheology, delusions and hero worship.   Must say that the statue is great and the suit he wore a nice touch, in fact it is a relic..
