http://today.marquette.edu/2016/05/marquette-reports-surge-in-student-demand-for-incoming-class/

In the final University Academic Senate meeting earlier this month, Provost Daniel J. Myers reported that Marquette exceeded its goal for tuition deposits from incoming students for the 2016-17 academic year.

The university received 2,010 deposits from incoming students by the May 1 deadline, and an additional 30 deposits have come in since May 1. The university's goal for the incoming class is 1,935 students. While new student enrollment typically fluctuates between the May 1 deadline and the start of classes this fall, the university is taking steps to ensure there is enough capacity to handle additional demand. Toward that end, the university has decided to keep O'Donnell Hall open for 2016-17.

University leaders have begun to evaluate current conditions within the residence hall. The building will receive a series of upgrades over the summer. These include a refurbished lobby (which started last summer) and upgraded wireless technology. O'Donnell will be co-ed in 2016-17.

The university's campus master planning process continues, including the recent announcement of a $96 million residence hall development and plans to eventually raze McCormick Hall. University leaders will continue their assessment of O'Donnell through next summer as part of the comprehensive planning process.
Have some patience, FFS.

I blame Lovell"s incompetence.  He should have never let them accept so many applicants.

when i applied and got accepted to MU, unless he had a great jump shot, i never heard of nor did i even know father raynor existed.  when i was asked where i was going to college, i didn't respond with-oh, that one that father raynor is the president of.  ::)

Buck was in the background at best.
Even given my loose affiliation with the catholic church, Fr. Raynor left an impression upon me in the best of ways.

As a frosh he sat down with us on the lawn, had a few beers out of the 1/4, and really talked to us about what we should expect out of Marquette.  Then in my first month as a soph i was summoned to his office to have a talk about living up to potential and (paraphrasing) 'work hard, play hard, give back'... literally changed my life.

he may have been in the background, but he was the best.  that being said, he was old school and probably not right for the needs of the modern institution fund raising etc, but right man at the right time for me

Buck wasn't in the best of health while I was at Marquette. He had some major heart issues.

Whenever we saw him he was always sporting a deep, buttery tan. We always wondered if there was a Roman Collar tan line...

So are there no all-guys dorms left on campus?

Pretty incredible, if that is the case.

jsglow

That's correct.  And the only all girls is Cobeen.

Does anyone know if other Jesuit colleges have same sex only dorms? Wonder if Cobeen will be co-ed one day.

I don't mean to knock the same sex dorm experience, it is probably something you can appreciate better if you have lived in one, but I never saw the appeal. Plus living in co-ed dorms at Marquette, you still live on a floor with all males or all females.

5 years ago I would have said that most probably have at least one all-girls dorm, but these seem to be going the way of the Dodo bird.

Even UW's long-time women's dorm has gone co-ed by wing: https://www.housing.wisc.edu/residencehalls-halls-waters.htm

I believe Butler has an all female dorm.  I don't think it uncommon at private universities.

The appeal is to the parents.  I am old enough to remember when coed dorms at a Catholic University were controversial.  The college I went to my freshman year in 1980 didn't have any, and it had quite the reputation as a party school (and well deserved, I might add....)

Almost all schools even had coed floors now. I went to Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin this past year and almost all of their housing have coed floors.

Bank on it.  Heisenberg, what do the gambling markets say?

These single-sex dorms (Cobeen) will go by the wayside.  Eventually at some school, somewhere in the US, there will a transwoman who wants to live in the all-girls dorm.  And there will be backlash.

I'm thinking along these lines:

I really hope that it's not Marquette on the front line of that war.  MU has had enough controversy

GGGG

Buck wasn't in the background. He was out raising money.
