Way beyond a two-sport star at Marquette

Only three freshmen have ever lettered in both football and basketball at Marquette. Sam Sauceda, who died Monday at his home in Whitefish Bay at the age of 89, was one on them. But that was just one achievement during his long tenure at the school.

I had him for Spanish.  He never mentioned his athletic abilities once, which I learned about from my older siblings.  Very sweet man.

I also had him for Spanish. had the unenviable job of being athletic director to Al McGuire in the early 1970s.

Nice guy. May he rest in peace.

Did his wife also teach Spanish? I had a tandem teach me back in the day. Learned that a 5 p.m. class meant I could sleep til 11. Actually talked her in to letting me attend BB games and submit a report in Espanol for the credit. rest of the class was pissed.
