Dr. Blackheart

That's one helluva battle he put up. To live 11+ years after being diagnosed is amazing and of course not possible without the initial transplant. He had to put in a ton of work to even get considered for a transplant.. very impressive fight.

Unfortunately I've learned much more about this disease over the past few weeks after a close family member was diagnosed. Visiting with him at Mayo was difficult and a bit upsetting... so few know about this disease even though it kills more than - for example - breast cancer.

And it's evil. Pulmonary Fibrosis is usually Idiopathic.. e.g., the cause is not know... and there's not much the doctors can do you for... oxygen.. steroids.. experimental drugs.. and at the end, morphine... but it's terminal and can be very quick. And it's progressive...

My loved one past on March 10th. Mass was this past Thursday. Hate to see another die. Happy though he was able to do some very important work before he left this world.

God bless. And you all should consider learning more about Pulmonary Fibrosis and donating to research and work towards a cure and treatments.

Well said...and touching JB.  Trey gave more than he got...and he got a lot.  RIP Good Son

rocket surgeon

Rest in peace trey and God bless all of those who took part in helping trey probably accomplish more in his life than many do healthy.  Here's to tom crean, et.al. Doing their part to put pulmonary fibrosis on the medical highway, closer to a cure than it was 11 years ago.  Unfortunately, it's going to take more trey schwabs of the world and sadly, even someone more "famous" to have to suffer with this disease before the real money needed to extend a life and/or cure this awful malady can be realized. Sorry for your loss jaybee.

Nice story in today's Chicago Tribune.

Glad Crean could squeeze in a reference to his police escort to Madison.

Be nice. Trey was an exceptional guy and we lost part of the family today. Our prayers to his family.

Crean didn't squeeze in a police escort reference at all....the author stated it.  Read it again.

You read it again. How in the world would David Haugh know Crean had a police escort 13 years ago? Because Crean thought it was an important detail to share. He can't help himself.

Crean has suffered a genuine loss of a close friend.  Leave him alone.

RIP Trey.

Let's leave the anti-Crean stuff out of this thread. It just isn't appropriate here.

Look, Crean lost a good friend.  I lost a friend.  I have no idea how the reporter knew, the reporter also interviewed Dr. Love, Diener, etc.  I have no idea nor do I care.  But what you said was wrong.

Here's what I do know, as much as I didn't care for Crean's personality as an employee, Trey loved the guy.

"Tom means the world to me," Schwab said. "I love him. The group of guys we had together at Marquette was special in my life."

We all know where you and others stand with him.  As I've said often here, he's one of those guys you love or hate, but there are many people who absolutely love the guy that spend 1000x the amount of hours with him than anyone on this board ever has. Whether their name is Travis Diener, Dwyane Wade, Trey Schwab, etc.

RIP
