TC Assist/Turnover
« on: March 02, 2016, 10:01:31 AM »
Since the Butler game at an inflection point where we really started to have success against quality teams, Traci has had 48 assists offset by 18 turnovers.  2.67x.

Last night's two best 'assists' didn't even count:  1) the blind over the shoulder pass to Luke(?) who got fouled and went to the line and 2) the bullet with 3 seconds left that lead to the foul and Luke's winning free throws.

The eye test is very easy.  Traci is a point guard with true skills for the position.  He's dramatically improved his post entry pass and is easily the best on the team at getting HE and/or Luke the ball when and where they need it.  Second, for the first time last night I don't remember a single occasion where he was 'too fast' which has often resulted in his Freshman turnovers.  Third, while not elite, his defense is very solid and he's definitely a scrapper.  Fourth, he's a decent penetrator with the ability to kick and finish at the rim depending on what the D gives him.  Fifth, his jump shot form makes him a credible threat requiring the defense to pay attention.

One more thing.  The kid is a Philly junkyard dog who literally trash talked the Nova bench a month ago for not recruiting him and turned away from the line to accept congratulations even before a recent clutch free throw had even swished the net.  I like confidence in a point guard.  He'll harness that even more effectively as an upperclassman.  Even now I never want him to leave the court.

Still very excited about Markus.  But he'll have his work cut out for him.

Great post, glow.

I'm high on TC, too.

And I also want Markus if he's smart enough to be a Warrior!

He scored 11 points yesterday, that is what your point guard needs to do to win, control the play but has to at least show he can score.  He did that yesterday.  Still
is unsure about going into the lane and scoring, had many opportunities to try.  Playing time makes a difference.  They are much better when he is in there.  Can make
passing plays, Cheatham not so sure.  But with JJJ and Carter in there, plays are being made.

Howard would be great to have but bigs right now are more important!

I wrote this in the HC thread, but now that TC, JJJ and HC have matured - I am really excited thinking about those three as a PG - Wing - Wing rotation next year.

Agree that TC seems to have a huge upside.  My favorite pass was the first you mentioned Glow - the over the shoulder pass to Luke, where Luke ended up getting fouled.  Incredible pass, and nice hands by Luke to catch and get fouled going up.

I think they will make each other better, and love to have a true point in the game all the time.

With Rowsey, Duane and hopefully Markus we are going to have some great guard depth next year.

Love this post, spot on glow! look for aggression in a frosh/young pg. When the game slows down for them, they're exactly what you want out of the position. Traci has "it". Can't wait to watch his career progress.

I agree with having JJJ, Cheat, and TC at the guard spots.  Man, I swear every time I watch JJJ this season he just gets better and better.  The dude can flat out get to the rim and quick.  He finishes above the rim.  I found myself watching the game thinking 'just get him the damn ball and get out of the way'.  I'm really excited to see what he brings next year.

TC, I was a bit worried earlier in the season.  Last night, he had a drive and stopped from going into 3 guys and losing the ball trying to create too much.  He got to the free throw line, pulled it out, and settled it down for a good one.  That is the progression I noticed.

Cheat, a nice player that can just get to the rim.  He has a sweet J.  I think he should probably look for it more.  He isn't to the point yet where if he is open then he is just going to stroke that 3.

I'm excited about the additions of Rowsey and Hauser next year.  In Hauser, we are bringing in a guy that is fundamentally sound, can shoot, plays defense, and don't have to worry about partying too much and missing class and practice.  I think just having a guy like Hauser that can come in, get some minutes, develop, and hit a long 3 will bring quite a bit to this team.

Where's my royalty check Andrei?

Haha, I started this post in January, but I can see the similarities. Would you like the 43 cents in revenue in check form or will pennies work?
