If we get the Duane we saw in the first seven games, I'd be happy with him starting.

If we get the Duane we saw in all the games since then, I'd be wishing for another year of Derrick.

Personally, I think Duane is the man to beat for the starting PG job. If that holds, I think we will be pretty good next season. If we can find an established graduate transfer PG and slide Duane over to the starting SG position, I think we will be a great team.

I think we have three players for next season who are "definite" starters:

Duane
Henry
Luke

The rest of the players are question marks. There's a lot of talent there, I just don't think any of them have established themselves as potential starters. I think if you can find two immediate impact players to fill in the starting PG, SG, or SF postion, you do it. My personal preference would be a graduate transfer PG and Deshawn Freeman (SF from the same juco as DJO). I think the last scholarship should go to a transfer who will end up in the same class as Sandy.

And Duane.  Remember last year was a redshirt year for Duane, so he and Sandy are now classmates.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Haanif known for being a complete player with lots of court vision who keeps his teammates involved. Can he step into that role as a freshman in the Big East? I don't know, only time will tell.

If he isn't playing the Point in HS, he cannot do it as a freshman at MU. Simple as that.

That's not necessarily true. A lot of recruits played off the ball simply because their size was needed in other positions. If I remember correctly, MCW played the post for his high school team. But yes, I would have concerns about Haanif playing PG without much experience.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

You two are so busy trying to bite my ankles, you can't figure out that I am basing my assessment of the PG based on who Wojo & Co. are recruiting.  They are looking at a bunch of Juco PGs.

It is obvious that they want multiple guards who can handle.

Ummm...frog legs!

JJJ will be much improved by the end of this year. The coaches are making a big impact on his overall game and I see continuous improvement.  . He will be an important player in the mix.

To me, JjJ is Vander Blue without the defense. A very poor shooting slashing guard. Vander improved his shot dramatically between his sophomore and junior seasons. Hopefully, JjJ can do the same.

JJJ needs to be on the 25,000 shot program this summer . He gets wide open and needs to make the shots. He is an excellent free throw shooter so I think the base is there. I have a lot of confidence in our coaches ability to brim out the best in him.

He still has that hitch in his shot.   That hitch must be addressed.

Having too much talent is rarely a problem.

I would welcome the addition of a talented PG next year to go along with Duane, NN and anyone else.

PG, especially, is one of those positions where it's hard to have too many. Even if Duane wins the job and looks fantastic, if he suffers an injury we'd sure wish we had another.

What are you talking about? I think having Luke play the point much like Marcus Jackson did to so much success after Travis Diener broke his hand using tackling dummies in practice is a great idea. "Cutting edge" I believe us the term that was used for implementing tackling dummies into a basketball practice. I can think of a million ways where the ability to properly tackle someone would come into play in basketball. Truly cutting edge.

Agreed. The coaches will smooth it out.
