Still left in the NIT:

Brad Brownell--Clemson (was Wainwright's asst at UNC Wilmington)
Larry Brown--SMU
Richard Pitino--MINN
Leonard Hamilton--FLA ST

don't want the first and can't see any of the others coming, for various reasons.  I don't see anyone left in the NCAA, save Martin, coming to MU

Benny B you are making one bold assumption, and that's the mystery candidate is a head coach. Could easily be an assistant.

I don't think MU is going to be hiring an assistant coach... Cords threw down the "we'll get the best guy" gauntlet in the presser earlier.  If he's going to concede that the best guy MU can get is an assistant, then I hope Lovell puts Cords on the fastest bus back to Wyoming.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Ok, bud.  You just lost any credibility that you had.
I don't have any credibility and I never claimed to.  I'm just a loser on a message board that should be working.

And you're right about the Big 10 coaches, so I'll amend:
No chance in 1,000,000 years: Mich St, Mich, Wisc, Indiana, Ohio St, Purdue
Really, really, really unlikely: Illinois, Iowa
Would jump at the offer, but it's not coming: Minn, Nebr, NW, Penn St

And the SEC you just might be right but is there really anyone there we care about?
No chance in 1,000,000 years: UK, UF, Vandy (Stallings isn't leaving his 15 year gig for MU)
I guess, but are they really worth worrying about: Alabama (Grant), Missouri (Haith), South Carolina (F Martin)
Maybe, but I still think probably not: Tennessee (Cuonzo Martin)
And the rest of the conference is not worth mentioning.

Better?

From nearly the get go Goose and Keefe have said they would be happy with any coach on MU's list

Shaka Smart
Tony Bennett
Ben Howland
Gregg Marshall

To my knowledge none of these 4 have officially turned MU down.  Respect the process!

Sean Miller is not leaving Arizona to come to Marquette
Steve Alford is not leaving UCLA to come to Marquette
John Beilein is not leaving Michigan to come to Marquette

Why does this post even need to be typed?  Everyone... stop the madness.  It makes all of us look foolish.

The foolish thing to do would be to write-off a potential candidate simply because you have an inferiority complex.  You don't know what these guys' personal situation, desires, goals, etc. are.  For all you know Sean Miller is married to a Chicago girl whose mother is sick.  Beilein might be sick of playing second fiddle to foosball.  Brey might rather play in a conference where he actually has a chance to compete for a conference championship every year.

I'm sorry... but MU is being linked to one guy who took UCLA to three FF's and was canned after winning the Pac-12 outright and another guy who turned down UCLA.  UCLA is the bluest of the blue-bloods, and we're in the hunt for two guys who were (and still are) good enough for the house that Wooden built?

Please... stop listening to ESPN and everyone else who wants to trash your conference/school because you don't have a football championship.  MU is the best job available right now, and likely would have been the top HC job available over any of the last few years (except UCLA, of course).

VPI could have written off Bazz after he turned down SMU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois, etc. etc.... but they still made the call, didn't they?  Because here we are.

If you're going to keep posting reasonable things, you might need to leave the board.  I don't know what to do with this.

MU may be the best job available, but that doesn't make it the best job out there.  You put Alford on the list!  There is literally no chance that the current coach of UCLA is ever taking the Marquette job.  None.

It is not reasonable to consider John Beilein, Sean Miller, and Steve Alford potentially reasonable candidates for the Marquette job.  It just isn't.

I don't think for a second that any of them are coming either, but that's not what he said.  He said that it doesn't hurt to ask if these people are interested.  There's a difference.

This is how I see it.

Howland=73.5%
Smart=15%
Marshall=5%
Martin=3%
Waddle=2%
?=1.5%

I will be fired up if we Ben Howland or Shaka everybody else is not an impact hire unless the 1.5% gets the job and that somebody is currently the headcoach of a Big10, SEC, or ACC team that is playing tonight or tomorrow.

So what you're saying is that there's no chance of getting the current UCLA coach, but his immediate predecessor, not to mention the guy who was the #1 choice ahead of the current coach, have both already spoken to MU?

I will dismiss the guy as a candidate because he's a scumbag.  I won't dismiss him because I think he's unattainable.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.

Jaime Dixon is not leaving Pittsburgh to come to Marquette.
Mike Brey is not leaving Notre Dame to come to Marquette.

Why would MU even be interested in Brey leaving ND for MU? Gag.

Whoever it ends up being, I would be willing to bet that we'll at least know who it's going to be by the time the first pitch is thrown on Monday. Reality is, its only been a week, and nobody of note has been hired anywhere else in that week.
