What is with all the hate for Creighton? I'm an MU grad, but grew up in Omaha and a CU fan my whole life so my loyalty leans towards CU. All I see on this board is bashing of Creighton and their fans. Because of a few drunk morons at the game in Milwaukee? I was at the game, and saw nothing but respectful Creighton fans. There are idiots in every fan base. The vast majority of Creighton fans are respectful, knowledgable fans who are beyond thrilled to be in the Big East and aspire to have the type of sustained success Marquette has had over its history. We certainly enjoy having respectful, knowledgeable fan bases in the Big East as opposed to the garbage we had to put up with against the likes of Wichita, Southern Illinois, etc.

Blue Jay fans were okay in Milwaukee.  I was, however, very surprised how they sat on their hands in Anaheim when we played San Diego State.  No conference love whatsoever.  I was cheering for them in the early round games.

Guess they couldn't bother to do the same for us.

Don't post often but this just irked me.  Let me say this 'MarquetteBallin".....I grew up in Omaha as well and graduated from Marquette.  Family had/currently has season tickets to the Jays, followed them to St. Louis for the Valley tourney and sported a Kyle Korver jersey as a youngster....but since my arrival at MU as a freshman and every year thereafter my allegiance entirely lies with MU.  I guess my post is more curious than anything...and my question is WHY are your allegiances still toward CU rather than your Alma Mater?

Creighton has an excellent team this year, and full of good, likable kids. Greg McD is a class act. They don't talk trash, don't showboat to the crowd, etc. and yet this board hates them. I honestly don't get it. For four years in college, I saw Boeheim, Pitino, and a dozen other teams with absolute pricks on up and down the roster coached by raging @$$ holes...yet the hate for Creighton is almost beyond what I saw for those teams.

I think you would have been more satisfied if you went to Creighton. You see most people relate to Marquette because that is where they made many good friends and appreciate what the school did for them. Since you apparently enjoyed growing up in Omaha and never made the emotional transition it appears Marquette was an error for you. That is fine but suggest that you try the Creighton board since you are not a Marquette fan by your own admission. Good luck with your team, I will stay with mine look forward to beating Creighton in the BET.

One thing though, if we finish strong I know it's a stretch but...the committee has been generous to us relative to many "experts" picks in the past AND we are coming off 3 straight sweet 16s 1 of which was as an 11. If we are neck and neck with some team that may end up working??

I think that is a stretch.  What we did last year or the years prior should have no bearing on selection this year.  Kentucky is a prime example.  Two years ago national champions.  Last year 21 wins, left out of the NCAA tournament despite their history.

+1

Your undergrad alma mater should come before all other teams. Graduate school alma maters can be secondary allegiances, but if you haven't even attended Creighton in any capacity and still favor them over MU that is really odd

They flop, which is worse then any of the stuff you mention.

And MCDermott, while extremely talented, is a world class whiner

They are Badger-esque in many ways.

When you grow up a fan of a team/school for your entire life, that doesn't just get abandoned because you choose to go out of state for school. I attended Marquette for many reasons--wanted to expand my horizons by going away for school, MU's academic reputation in my area of interest, scholarship, etc. For any intelligent individual with aspirations beyond just four years, going to a school just because you're a fan of the basketball team is pretty short-sighted. Thus, I didn't go to Creighton and I am glad that I didn't--it just wouldn't have been the right fit for me in terms of the overall college experience. Marquette was and I am grateful.

I had no affiliation with MU before going to school there. But I went to every game as a student, however, and have great memories of MU. Now, I root for Marquette in every game except Creighton. I don't see how that's a problem or how it affects anyone else? You now have a Marquette fan that you didn't have 15 years ago. One that tries to get to a home game or two every year, donates to the school/athletic department, etc. My kids will be Marquette fans. Being a fan of MU and CU, two great institutions and good basketball teams, is not forbidden.

Creighton fans were awful. The ones sitting by the student section would taunt the students by flipping us off and telling us to sit down after McFlopper hit the dagger 3. Mind you these were middle aged people taunting college kids...

I was also born and raised in Omaha, went to every Jays game I could growing up, couldn't see myself ever rooting for anyone as much as Creighton, and yet I currently attend Marquette and I find myself favoring Marquette over Creighton more and more each year I've been here. Granted, my freshman year we had the DJO/Jae team so going from Mo Valley mediocrity (they were an average Valley team for the 3-4 years pre-Doug) to that squad every game was a night and day difference and it was easy to love my school's team when we were that good right as I got here.

It was easier when Creighton had the MVC and we had the BE so rooting allegiances never crossed, but now that the two schools have to battle for wins in conference, are going after the same recruits, etc., I can see where the annoyance of Creighton fans can be a little much. Hell, I'm good friends with countless Creighton fans and I'm freaking annoyed with the entitlement they all feel this year. That being said, most fans are level-headed and realize it'll be a long few years after this month where Greg Mac's job really starts (for the record, I'm not a huge McDermott fan and think MANY of his coaching deficiencies will come to light once this group of seniors graduates).

Didn't mean to ramble, just thought I'd share my Omaha/Marquette side of things. I've become a bigger fan of MU the longer I've been here, and will definitely stay that way as time goes on cause I'm proud to be an undergrad here, but I can also understand those who grew up with the Jays and prefer them to MU. To each their own.

Won't try and defend that. Don't understand what makes people think they can act like jackasses at road games. As I said, 90% of Creighton fans are great. 10% are idiots.

And I don't think CU has any entitlement issues. We're hoping like hell we just make the S16 this year, knowing full well that losing 90% of our scoring plus one of the top 10 players in Division 1 history is going to make for a massive rebuilding challenge--particularly in a league that is killing it in recruiting. We have no disillusions about any of that. Mac has his work cut out for him.

Creighton plays bitch basketball, does anything else need to be said?

Doug McDermott is a top 10 player in D1 history? That's hilarious.

🏀

I can't even put Douggie McFlopper in the top 50 of all time.

Yeah but they have been generous to us. That's what Im saying. Where most have viewed us, we have been ending up even better recently due to the committee.

Let's just end this thread. Doug is a top 10 scorer (didn't mean to say player, excuse me) in D1 history, and his absence is going to be devastating to Creighton next year. That was my point.

My original purpose in responding to this thread was to calm some of this ridiculous, unwarranted hate towards CU, and to do so from someone with perspective on both sides of Marquette/Creighton. I think it can be a fun rivalry, built on mutual respect from two like-minded schools.

But I guess the brand of "bitch basketball" played by Creighton makes that impossible.

Still wildly incorrect and utterly ridiculous.

I think it's hard for us to understand the perspecitve of the Nebraskans they have a strange connection to their college teams.  Not trying to be insulting at all but everybody I know from Nebraska has a feeling of love towards the Huskers and/or Jays in a way that I think is considered weird in most places (particularly those most of us are from).  So while I think it's weird Marquetteballin (might want to change your name after you admitted putting MU behind the jays) roots for CU over MU, I think it's just a Nebraskan thing.

He's going to be one of eight players with 3,000+ points. Did he do it playing against the likes of Duke/Carolina/Kansas etc. on a consistent basis? Obviously not. It's still remarkable. From purely the perspective of a college basketball fan, it's pretty cool that we get to witness it in our lifetime.

After a ridiculously frustrating loss to XU yesterday, Doug signed autographs for Xavier fans for 20 minutes. It's not a superhuman act of grace. But it does take a certain level of maturity and class. He's a great kid putting up historic numbers. Most reasonable people can appreciate it for that if nothing else. Or call him Dougie McBitchFlopper, whatever.

I'm done with this. Beat Nova!

Counting stats are hardly remarkable, but I guess if it floats your boat. It's too bad for people that would want to witness it couldn't considering three years were against the dredges on the MVC.

I understand though, you have a special connection with Douggie.

No, not top 10. I'd have to make a list to get far enough out for him, but off the top of my head....top 30....maybe top 25...
