By definition, your email friend isn't much of a fan. I mean, I've been a fan for 48 years and I've NEVER not known when, where and whom we were playing. Believe me, Ners, Dreadman, Willie, etc. know we played tonight but without Buzz or Derrick to rip or one (or more) of the freshmen to champion it's just no fun for them.
Yeah, I knew we played tonight, Lenny, and we finally played fairly well on the road. Not a quality win, but a nice one. And it was fun, Lenny. And guess what Lenny, even though I am not "ripping" Buzz here, there is always you to rip, as you were wrong on one of the two postulations you made above. By the way Lenny, what is more fun for you: ripping a player, ripping the Coach, or ripping fellow fans? Just asking.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying he's a bad guy. I have friends who follow MU when they're doing well and not so much when they struggle. I have no problem with that. They would readily acknowledge that they're not real fans. I imagine your friend would, also.
Yes, that is right. Lenny is the sole arbiter of who/what defines a "real fan".

Based on what I watched (delayed)...really good first 10 minutes...bad next 10....bad next 10....strong last 10.

Overall, road win...good stuff.  Still need 40 minutes of consistency.  Will need to play much better to beat Xavier and\or Creighton.

You know, Willie, even when you're having "fun" you seem angry. To answer your question, I'd prefer not to rip any of those groups but will if it is appropriate. Players who don't go to class or behave badly, coaches who are phonies or incompetent, fans who are spoiled and entitled all deserve a ripping.

I would say our only really bad minutes were the last 10 in the first half when Derrick was on the bench and we frequently turned the ball over. In the first 10 minutes of the second half we weren't so bad - Seton Hall just couldn't miss. Happens, especially on the road. I thought we showed great heart playing through it.

You're backtracking. 4ever may get fed up, take a game off, whatever. I'd be shocked if he didn't even know we were playing a conference game like your friend. Again, not saying your buddy isn't a good guy or that he wants MU to lose or anything like that. But he's not much of a fan (IMO) if he doesn't even know we're playing with the season hanging in the balance.

Oh, he's definitely a fan.  Puts a lot of money into seats, donations, etc.  I suspect he knew we were playing this week, just forgot what date and because we've been meandering probably didn't get him to focus in on the game date \ time.  You get a little more amped up when things are going well.  This is why tv ratings and attendance (actual butts in seats, not tickets purchased as many are purchased prior to season) decline for teams that are supposed to do well, but end up struggling....people find other things to do.  Human nature.

Q:What do all those Seton Hall fans have in common?

A:1.They're all disappointed. 2.they knew their team had a game tonight,

Yes, the ones that participated in that forum...we call that self selection.

Looking at all the empty seats there, I suspect they are also fans, may have shown up for other games this year, but decided last night they had something else to do.

I'm not being negative with what I'm about to say, but to me Jamil Wilson had his best ten minutes of his career to open the game and Derrick, Jake and every other player that played with him that stretch benefited from his stellar performance as to how it appeared they looked on the court.

Derrick got two quick first half fouls and is forced to sit.  What ensued was the collective 'Marquette can't buy a bucket for extended time' that happens EVERY game whether he's on the floor or not.  Let's be honest:  Derrick Wilson is not a shooter and therefore he has very little control, positively or negatively, over when and for how long our scoring droughts last.

I don't care how well coached these kids are or how long they've been playing elite level basketball through their years but when everything is falling for the other team and nothing is going in for your team more mistakes are made compounding the problem.

Could be another reason....like the email I got tonight.  "Didn't even know we played tonight, such a lost season".

I know people will pile on him and say he isn't a true fan, but its probably more like 4ever the other day...he just had other priorities.

I didn't get a chance to see any of the game, in meetings all of game.  Hopefully can watch it later tonight on DVR.

Nice to hear we won.  Some opportunities ahead.

Okay loyalty check time!

Do you see all or almost all of Marquette's games?

Do you see all or almost all of Indiana's games?

Do you see all or almost all of Kansas' games?

If your answer is yes to all three of the above, how often does your family try to hold basketball viewing interventions?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Huh? When 1 out of 5 players especially your point guard can't shoot and the defense is able to sag into the interior, that defintiely has a negative impact on scoring. I'm not singling out Wilson, this applies to any point guard who can't shoot nor drive proficiently.

lol funniest thing on there board is the thread asking when the BE will step in and fire Willard. lol.

Questioning my level of being a fan a tad this year. Have stayed away from BC, with exception of two games and not missing it. That said, I have watched 95% of every game when I have been in the country. My question lays in why I am watching the games. For the first time in many years I do not have that warm feeling a fan gets about his team.

I guess my love of MU and the program has kept me engaged, even more so than I would like to engaged in it. When all is said and done I hope the fella's prove me wrong and play well the next month. Long, crappy winter and fair basketball and zapped my excitement level to some degree.

OK Lenny--of course you get to determine who to rip--just like I do. "spoiled" fans and "entitled" fans are your opinion, which count no more than my opinion or anybody else's here. So you rip who you believe deserves it, and so will I. "Seem angry" from something on a board sure is objective. You seem angry in your response, even when you are having "fun" but hey, I could be wrong.

I see 98% of MU games (I can think of one that I missed in the last few years and it was a cupcake and once I saw the score, I didn't bother on DVR).  I see probably 50% of IU games....probably 20% of KU games.   Probably see more UCLA games than KU, though some of that is actually attending in person.  Like Saturday I'll be at the Utah game.

The secret to serenity/sanity would be to reverse those percentages for the remainder of this year.  20% MU, keep IU at 50%, and up Kansas to 98%.  That'll be $150, please.  Good to know that you've stuck (mostly) to your first love.

I find your lack of response to my question regarding your family scheduling a basketball viewing intervention, most interesting.  Let's schedule another appointment, shall we?

Apparently, a home win has the same effect.    Ahhhhhhhhhhh.     Smug 'til morning.
