Not necessarily...A new industry has sprouted here on the Left Coast

Not just the Left Coast.  All they'd have to do is cross the Mississippi into Minnesota.

And yes, I see a lot of Subarus here. ;D

Exactly correct.  AM, FM, and TV antennas all broadcast their signal in both wattage and direction according to the "coverage area" prescribed by the FCC.  You can go 50 miles south of an antenna and get perfect reception, and yet go 20 miles north and get nothing but static.

Since the MU radio network already has coverage in Madison and no coverage in Chicago, it would make more sense to broadcast from Milwaukee on a station that has better coverage to the south.

That would make sense since that's where the population is!

This is truly a fascinating thread to read.  Almost like it was 1955 or 1984.  Now if it was 1955 or 1984 I would not be reading an internet forum.  And given the fact that it is actually 2014, and technology has come along way why dont you cavemen that are arguing about 100 year old technology get into the times?

Not living in Wisconsin, I watch the game on television and after the final buzzer grab this thing called a cell-phone and open my Tuned in radio app. and listen with 100% clarity.  Additionally, when i do go to games, such as the Butler game this weekend, i will turn it on after the game and listen on my walk to the car and then in my car.  Really quite simple.
Additionally an AUX cable will allow you to plug directly into your car speakers, for cars built before 2007, u can buy a simple speaker to plug into your phone for $30 or less.  I use it on my boat as well.

I'm with you regarding Tune In. But the ESPN Radio App is buggy as heck for me. Running on LTE and it still cuts back and forth consistently. On Tune In, it's fine.

i apologize if this is a re-occurring b!tch topic, but i don't listen to it very often as most of the games are on tv of i am down there at the bmo watching.  then there is the long ride home to waukesha, or small project in the garage where you'd like to keep up with the game on the radio then run inside to the tv during some key game moments.  anyway, can they throw a couple more vermin in the cage to get the power output up just a little.  i start getting interference riding out of milwaukee from the bridge overpasses 5-10 miles from the station.  i can almost wave my hand in front of the radio and cause a loss or weakening of the signal.  i think there are some high schools with stronger radio signals than ours.  it's hard to hear buz'z show after the games because i'm all the way out to the milwaukee/waukesha county borders.  bottom line, this is embarrassing for a "big time" program to have far less than big time broadcast capabilities.  before MU got into their p!ssing contest with homer and belling, wisn was at least a triple AAA league signal.  now we've got 540 AM  barely able to reach out the windows of the bradley center.  my guess from a pr and recruiting stand, this is like cb radio-hey good buddy, i got yer backdoor closed if ya wouldn't mind watching the front door fer me, much appreciated-oh by the way, some team named the marquette golden somethings are playing a team called the orange.  this is not your fathers broadcasting company
I saw this topic last week and thought nothing of it because I rarely listen to the radio for the broadcast. I was riding up to Neenah for a bball tourney on Saturday and listened to the Butler game clearly through Oshkosh with no problem at all. You need to get a new radio, or new car.

Grain free, a'ina?

MU Fan in Connecticut

I watched the first half and listened to the second half on the TuneIn App.  I'm glad ESPN 540 is available over TuneIn.
