I predicted they would finish at least 4th with their talent this year.  Is there a more underperforming coach in the country that Lavin?

They have had a tough start to the Big East sched:  @Xavier, @GTown, Nova.  But losing to DePaul albeit on the road, and then home to Providence?

Wow.  One would have to think if they don't finish at least .500 in the league Lavin would be on the hot seat after this season?

We R Final Four

To get to .500 that means 9-4 finish after an 0-5 start. Not happening with this team.

Nobody signed or verballed for next year or further out either.  Would have thought Lavin would have about five highly rated recruits for next year, and maybe one or two would even end up qualifying.  It's like he's trying to get fired.

The Big East is always better when St. John's wins! Lavin better start winning or I hope they go with a new coach.

Never really got it going again after the cancer sabatical. Must be spending too much time at home...

No discipline.   And last night, no outside shooting.

Lavin has always been a solid recruiter who can't seem to make the most of the talent he brings in.  I thought bringing Keady in as an assistant was a great move, but they clearly haven't improved.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that I was wrong about my "Lavin isn't as bad as people think" prediction.

Jaybee what's Lavin's buyout?

Lavin's style is Exhibit No. 1 on why you have to be disciplined as a coach as to who earns playing time.  The key being that you EARN it by doing what the coach tells you to do, have to hustle, play defense and know the defense, and know the offense and follow the rules.  Simple things like a paint touch forces players to either drive or pass the ball... St. John's could use more team play.

For some who think that Buzz doesn't play the most talented players, but instead plays the guys who practice hard and know how to play defense and what is a good shot versus a bad shot... consider the talent that Lavin has had. If Buzz rewards players who don't do these things, it begins a multiyear spiral of players expecting to play without listening to the coach and without learning the fundamental things Buzz expects.

I think it was two years ago when St. John's was at the BC, and I couldn't believe the shot selection and one on one play. St.John's should have won, yet Lavin just let his guys do what they wanted and no body seemed to get yanked and put on the bench.

We may loose to them this year as they have more talent, but it is a lot less likely if St. John's players do what they want, take long covered three's, etc, without ramifications.  It also sets up a program for future failure as players know they don't have to play disciplined ball to play.

Well put and I agree.  From what I saw of Providence-St Johns last night, the Johnnies have a lot of talent, but a few of their players seemed to relish the one-on-one more than anything.  They easily could have won that game.  Probably best for the Big East that they lost... Providence is still considered "last four out" in most brackets.
