1.  Free throws.  Grrrrrr.
2.  Davante.  I don't care what your numbers are, don't be a punk in a 40 pt. game
3.  Great to see JJJ and Deonte have some successful run.
4.   Juan, just because you miss a shot, it doesn't mean it is time to pack it in.   Stay aggressive.
5.  Jake, great defense.   Right spot every time.
6.  Jamil can make it look so easy.
7.   Ball movement is fun to watch.
8.  Loved the way MU trapped the pick and roll in the first half.   Phenomenal.
9.  Get well soon, Duane.
10.  Cupcakes are yummy.

He got pulled down by the kid. It was a bush league move by the IUPUI player and he should have been hit with a technical too.

Only issue with free throws is we didn't get to the line much. 3 makes away from an average %. Meh, not a big deal.

Hate the turnovers. Bad..

Love to shooting. 45.7% eFG at Wisconsin, 43.0% vs SDSU... today? 70.2%

Best shooting since January 2010, based on a quick query.

Juan with 5 steals and his steal % is now quite impressive over a decent sized body of work. (MBD has been excellent earning steals as well, but Deonte hasn't gotten nearly as much run.)

It was pretty clear that Devante shoved the guy to the ground trying to fake a foul.  He deserved a technical for that alone.  His near fight after that deserved its own technical.  Really bad series for Devante, lucky he didn't get kicked out of the game.

11. Deonte is an absolute beast.

I cannot get over how confident this freshman is.  He never hesitates on a shot and he never looks intimidated.  He had an incredible no-look pass today -- his peripheral vision must cover about 320 degrees.

And that amazing dunk -- I know that's just the tip of the iceberg.  And it was just as fun to see the bench's reaction - they were going absolutely crazy - as it was to see the dunk.

BTW, I know you can't tell any of the above from the box score, but I just wanted to talk about it
Have some patience, FFS.

You didn't see that from where we were sitting.  It looked like the IUPUI guy stepped on Davante's face.  Of course, they didn't show any replays on the Jumbotron, so we didn't have the benefit of that. In the arena, it seemsed like the consensus was that Davante got hosed on the call.

Davante was pushing, but the guy wrapped up his arm and fell, taking Davante down with him. Double foul was appropriate. Technical only on Big Sheesh was out of line. Should have been both, the other guy or neither.

Was watching on TV where they showed it in slow motion.  Looked pretty clear that Davante shoved the guy before they went down.

To be fair on the replays you could not see what really happened when they were getting up.  You could just see the IUPUI guy step over Gardner (looked like he was just standing like normal), if he did step on or towards Davante's face the reaction is far more understandable.

Sounds like depending on vantage point the whole scenario can take on vastly different impressions...likely means it was somewhere between Gardner being lucky he didn't get kicked out and him being hosed on the call.

I thought the aggressiveness on defense really helped to set the tone.

A lot of them were dumb turnovers too.  Dawson (or was it JJJ??) came in, and the first time they touch the ball they turn it over at the top of the key.

Nice to see our seniors & Juan lead by example.  Also good production from just about everyone.  Johnson, Burton and (probably) Duane will be an excellent trio next year.

Earl Tatum

Look who we play. Iupui, Grambling state, let's play some competition. Go MU! When we play
the big boys we flop because of lack of competition. No way Arizona State and SDSU should have
beaten us. To much ego and no togetherness. This sucks!

Concur with all of this. What is scary is that he might not even be the best of the freshmen.

Death on call

The dude looked like he was gonna step on Davante's head. Intentional or not, I can see how he wouldn't be happy about it.

I think Burton is going to be a fun ride while at Marquette.  He has all kinds of physical tools, a real nose for the ball and great energy/enthusiasm.  He's going to be easy to root for.  At the same time, it seems like he barely has an idea of what is going on.  For a while he is going to alternately thrill and frustrate, but when he gets it figured out, look out.

Not even close. Gardner also hit him in the nuts before they went down. may have been accidental, but looked intentional to me.

Burton already is a stud.

It was pretty clear before the game that it would all be seashells and balloons after we kicked cupcake city's keester in this game.

And next we get Ball State, another pastry piece. Let's see how we do against New Mexico on a "neutral" court.

Out of curiosity, how many of you saw this in person vs. on t.v.? I didn't make it to the game and saw the replay on t.v. 3 or 4 times. It looked like Davante clearly had his arm wrapped up and was pulled down to me.

Apparently, I missed something. I'll have to go back check it out again.

There was a lot of banging in the post leading up to it.   Davante trying to back him down, the defender bumping back.   Very physical.   Davante put up the shot and it missed.   To my eyes, watching the replays, it looked like Davante shoved him in the process of making it look like he was chasing the rebound.   They got tangled and both ended up on the floor.    To my eyes, it looked like a frustration shove.

Fair enough. I know that Davante isn't above being chippy but I thought his reaction on the ground was justified. Either way, it definitely was an unwise decision by him in a game that had long since been decided.

I thought I saw Stanbeck try to step on Ox's face when they got up on the replay.  (I was watching on TV).  I kind of wondered why that wasn't mentioned.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

+1 Hence, the reason he starts over Todd or JJJ.

I wonder if certain people pay attention to anything Buzz says or does. It is all about TRUST and he trusts Jake.

Yep. JJJ's defense is pretty bad, needs to get stronger. Burton doesn't have that excuse, he should be a lock down defender, needs to focus more on that part of his game.

My view from tv and replays, the IUPUI guy was holding Gardner's arm in a fairly-hidden hold for about 5-10 seconds... looked like Gardner was pushing the guy off of him to break the hold, and didn't care if they both fell in the process... which is exactly what happened.  I thought it could have been a double-T as the IUPUI started it.  Under no circumstance should it be an ejection... refs looked at the replays closer than any of us.
