Watching the Depaul game on Fox Sports 2 and I have to say, Grambling looks aweful. They have already missed three layups in the first four minutes.  MU should roll this team.

Also, Depaul is playing in their on-arena.  The capacity is 3000.  It might be half full.  My high school gym is nicer than their barn!  I sure hope they get their arena situation figured out soon.

GGGG

Grambling didn't win a game last year.  They lost a game to Southern by 39 points.

I understand that they were aweful last year.  I am just stating that they do not look like they have improved much.

Their entire athletic program is in disarray. They'd still be a bad team in Div. 3

4everwarriors

Can't win a game when their shoulder pads are caked with mold.

Pretty sure Gramblin' is hangin' loose in the Chi/MKE area till our game on Tuesday. Likely no charter travel. Hell, they may have Greyhounded it from Louisiana.

Does that mean on campus arena?
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

At least the Grambling guards can get to the hole to try a layup

Yes, sorry, I meant it to say on-campus arena.  It was so small.  Can't believe they played a game there.

Probably were testing to see if that would attract more students to the games.  Trying to get them hooked with a win so that later for bigger games they'll go out to the Allstate.  I've been there for their madness (GF went to Depaul don't judge me) and I know what you mean it's small but for a program with attendance issues trying to be portrayed as a high major it's necessary.

Was this alumni hall?  I thought they tore that down.  Went to a few MU/DePaul games there in the 70's (including 77) and developed a new appreciation for my high school's gym.  It was crap.  I remember the little band in the balcony hanging behind the basket backboard during freethrows.  Man, it was bad.

Depauls on campus arena is relatively new. But it's tiny.

And their arena situation is figured out. McPier is building an arena in the south loop near McCormick place.

I wouldnt call that on campus though. Wasnt the whole goal of a new arena so it would be on Depauls campus?

There was never gonna be anything REAL close to campus, just due to space purposes, but 2 spots on the river were bandied about, but fell through for a variety of reasons.  Sure the new spot isn't walking distance, but people saying its not any easier or infinitely more convenient than Allstate are just high.  I've been to 2 Depaul games since I've moved to Chicago, both Marquette games.  With the new arena, I'd likely go to 2-3 additional a season.

Its a huge improvement from Rosemont from an accessibility perspective. They are building a new L station right on Cermak 2 blocks from the arena. You can get there from the loop campus in 15 minutes and from the Lincoln Park campus in 30 minutes via the L. That's as good as you can do in a city already as dense as Chicago, without tearing apart campus.

It may be better than Rosemont for the students but it's not any better for the alums that would potentially buy tickets.  I'd say if you live in the suburbs it's about even to worse if you're driving to and from at the times games are played. There's also no good Metra connection there, as the only Metra stops are off the ME line and that starts at Millenium Park and not at Ogilvy/Union station.

I live not far from the Addison red line and it would be at least 45 mins for me to get to the new arena as proposed.

Agree that a city based Arena is better overall, but I'm not sure the location being used is that big of an improvement over Rosemont when considering the ease of travel.

There's a Metra stop right at McCormick place, like a block away....

nvm, that's what you are talking about. Well, it is what it is. I think its a pretty accesible drive from the suburbs. Its right off 94.
