Who lost their spot to injury here?  Also that isn't always true.  It is much better for baseball that Gehrig got his job.  Same for football with Tom Brady.  It is worse when tenure keeps a better player on the bench.

I think he means Deng.

If you guys follow the Bulls, you know that Thibs doesn't really believe in players losing their job due to injury. If the player is healthy, he will gradually ease him into playing but very seldom does someone lose their starting spot. That happened to Rip Hamilton this year, but is a very seldom occurrence.

This isn't happening because of Jimmy's rise as a potential star. Deng's contract has been a topic of interest for the whole season, whether to resign him and how that contract will impact that cap for this upcoming year. Deng being the subject of trade talks isn't anything new. This isn't happening strictly because of Jimmy. I don't think they'd trade Deng. I think Booz is the one that is not going to be back next year.

Thank you.

Sad for the productive player. He was the second option, behind Rose. Now, because of injury and the emergence of Butler, he's being DENGled (dangled) at Cleveland in trade talks. Cleveland is at least three solid players away from making the playoffs. Bulls are a Rose away from championship contention. Deng loses a lot from this injury.

The Bulls' shopping of Deng has nothing to do with his injury and everything to do with his contract and the team's need to get better at other positions, most notably the need for a full-time SG who can shoot.

For the previous poster ... highly unlikely Boozer is going anywhere. I don't think they'll be able to find anyone willing to take on his contract (at least not without taking on a worse contract in return, which sorta defeats the purpose) and I don't think Thibs and Foreman are sold on Taj Gibson as a full-time starter.

Don't think Deng would be in trade talks if was wasn't injured.

He has the past two years because the bulls are looking to put them in a spot to win in the near future. They aren't exactly sure if they can win now or not. Deng is an expiring contract and the Bulls are smart for at least exploring trade opportunities before he possibly leaves for nothing.

Canned Goods n Ammo

He's expensive.

He has a lot of mileage.

If you can find production from a younger/cheaper player, then you looks to deal him and allocate that $$ elsewhere.

Being a GM isn't just about basketball, it's about economics and allocation of resources.

Sorry, didn't know. Thought it was something new from ESPN's recent high reporting of the situation. Bulls trade talk not strong in my neck of the woods.

Perfectly stated. Dollar for dollar, Jimmy is way more valuable.

word today is the Bulls are working on an extension for Deng

Should be interesting to see if they can agree on how much he is worth to the team.

I really hope Deng sucks it up and takes a paycut so the Bulls can bring in more talent...

Just like Rose did.

damuts222

Hopefully Bulls draft Hardaway Jr. or someone that can shoot at #20.
